We are winding down the summer with another RAW In A Nutshell. We are ending August with eyes on Extreme Rules.
Extreme Rules being the next PPV up, of course. Just in case you somehow missed that.
Sure, summer is winding down. Kids are going back to school.
So with all that said…RAW is ending August, with eyes on Extreme Rules, set for later in September.
No major matches set yet, of course…but the hopes are things come into focus a bit more this week.
Who will take on Bobby Lashley next? Will we dare get another Goldberg match soon?
What about Charlotte Flair’s next challenger?
You see the theme here. There’s plenty of time left before Extreme Rules...but eyes will be on that event, so expect things to begin the build.
So, no more chatter…let’s get into it. It’s time for…
RAW In A Nutshell: Ending August With Eyes On Extreme Rules
Let’s crack open this Nutshell as we get ready to head into September!
Best Match of the night:
Damian Priest versus Sheamus versus Drew McIntyre.
This one underscored how high WWE is on Priest.
The United States Champion pinned Drew clean to retain.
Match was given plenty of run time and delivered good action.
The tag main event was good too…but the title match did it best.
Worst match of the night:
I am semi-torn here.
Like, I am actually intrigued about a posisble Nia Jax singles revival.
In that sense, the match tonight between Charlotte and Nia was important. Build up Jax as a believable challenger.
However…there were some weird spots…and something just seemed off. Maybe it was just me.
There is also Doudrop and Eva Marie. But…it wasn’t officially a match, so does it count?
Star of the Night
Damian Priest. This felt like a true star making show for him, even though it wasn’t.
Let’s call it a further vote of confidence.
Spot of the Night:
Nothing really screamed out tonight.
Maybe Nia planting Charlotte?
Jobber of the Night:
John Morrison, perhaps?
But it’s an odd choice, because as we were told…Morrison challenged Omos.
Upset of the Night:
Nothing
Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:
Nia Jax made it through a match with Charlotte without getting someone injured?
No “oh my hole!” exclamations either.
Could it be? Could we be seeing Jax back chasing the title without any goofs?
Botch of the night:
It just seemed odd to me, we had a number of entrances before prior competitors had exited.
Like, I get the link between Omos and AJ to RK-Bro…but it was just weird having Riddle’s entrance hit before AJ finished a brief celebration.
And before that, Xavier Woods coming down before defeated John Morrison could really get out of the way.
LOL Moment of the night:
John Morrison called out Omos, and the giant’s response was basically “sucks to be you”
Noteworthy Moment:
Miz was a no show, story line anyways, so Morrison instead got fed to Omos.
My gut says that Miz versus Morrison will be booked for Extreme Rules at this point. Has pre-show all over it.
Seems we are also looking at Charlotte versus Nia Jax for Extreme Rules.
As for who faces Lashley next? Well, we heard from Goldberg…but we all know that’s not happening in September.
Best guess? I don’t yet have one…but I’d be all for seeing Sheamus get a go.
Overall lowlights:
Didn’t we already do the whole run of Eva Marie having matches that don’t actually get started?
Karrion Kross’s new gear. Yes, I saw it last week.
This week I guess it finally sunk in…and it’s just moronic to have the suspenders. Like, the mask is whatever, I could live with it.
But the suspenders? It makes me think of Koko B. Ware.
Overall highlights:
Priest versus Sheamus versus Drew was the match of the night.
Main event tag match? Sure why not.
I could maybe get into a new Nia Jax push…though I can’t yet get into her as a face (and Charlotte absolutely is not one).
After the final bell:
So that is how August ends, relative to RAW.
Not a bad RAW In A Nutshell, but with eyes on Extreme Rules…I expect things will get more into focus over the coming weeks.
No matches truly set yet…but if you squint, you can start to see some things on the horizon.
