NXT boss William Regal had so much faith in Sasha Banks, he said he would quit if she didn’t work out in the company. In fact, Banks was the first person Regal wanted on the NXT roster.

“She was the first person I went to bat for to hire, because the people who were doing the job that I do now wouldn’t even give her the time of day.”

“I’ve known her since she was 19 and she used to be an extra at Boston. The first day, I was in catering and she came and sat and said ‘do you mind if I ask you some questions about wrestling?’

“I wasn’t doing this job then but in the afternoon at the shows, I’d always be training outside the ring and she’d be one of the ones who would always come and talk.”

“When it came to me getting this job… I went to them [about Sasha] and said ‘look, if this doesn’t work out, you can fire me.”

“To see the way she has come through this, and to see what she’s done [is] incredible. Just to see that she’s come through all this and become the star she has been very fulfilling.”

It seems William Regal was right about Banks. After all, she became one of the most successful women in the company.

Sasha Banks started her wrestling career officially in 2010. She started wrestling for Chaotic Wrestling and made her debut in an intergender match.

Banks worked for a number of lesser known promotions in the beginning of her career. These included Chaotic Wrestling, but also New England Championship Wrestling.

Sasha Banks eventually ended up in the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA). She left the independent promotion in 2014, when she was signed by the WWE.

Banks faced a number of other well-known female wrestlers. After all, she came up with the likes of Paige, Alicia Fox, Charlotte, and many others.

It would be two years until Sasha Banks became the NXT Women’s Champion. This was also the time where the four horsewomen emerged.

As one of the four horsewomen of the WWE, Banks got a lot more attention. Nevertheless, it would take another year for her to make her debut on the main roster.

Banks came to the main roster alongside Charlotte and Becky Lynch. During this time, she experienced a winning streak beating Brie Bella, Alicia Fox and even Becky Lynch.

In early 2016, Banks started chasing the Diva’s Championship. However, this title was retired and replaced with the WWE Women’s Championship.

Over the years, Banks won the Raw Women’s Championship five times. She is also the current SmackDown Women’s Champion.

Banks also won the women’s tag team titles twice and got the slammy for female superstar of the year in 2020.
