Jelly Roll Desperately Wants Katy Perry’s Seat On ‘American Idol’ – ‘I’m In’

Earlier this year, Katy Perry announced that she will be leaving American Idol at the end of this season after serving as a judge on the reality television singing competition show since 2018. Now, the country music star Jelly Roll is speaking out to say that he would do anything to take over her seat on American Idol.

Jelly Roll Wants To Be A Judge On American Idol

While attending iHeartRadio’s iHeartCountry festival last weekend, Jelly Roll was told that Perry wants to see him be her replacement.

“I love you, Katy Perry,” he told E! News in response. “Find you a friend that talks about you like Katy Perry talks about me in the media. Thank you, Katy Perry. I love you to death.” 

Jelly Roll went on to gush about Perry telling everyone that she can that he should be her American Idol replacement. He then made it clear that if he gets the offer, he would take it in a heartbeat.

“I’d go clean the American Idol toilets if they wanted me to—I’m in,” he said.

Katy Perry Praises Jelly Roll

Last month, Perry praised Jelly Roll for how he did as a mentor on American Idol earlier this season.

“He could be my pastor. I might go back to church for him,” she said of him. “He could sell me anything.”

Perry went on to say that Jelly Roll would fit in perfectly with the other American Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie because he always tells it like it is, going so far as to say that he would be “amazing” on the show.

“I want a truth teller,” she said, according to Fox News. “I want someone that is not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way.”

American Idol has always had at least one female judges on the panel, with some examples being Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Nicki Minaj. That’s why it would be somewhat surprising if Jelly Roll was given Perry’s seat, should both Bryan and Richie each stay on the show.

With Perry endorsing Jelly Roll so emphatically, however, perhaps producers will decide to give him a shot!

Perry Leaving American Idol

Fans were stunned when Perry announced back in February that she plans to leave American Idol after the current 22nd season. While she said she loves American Idol “so much,” she suggested that she wanted to have more time to focus on her music.

Billboard reported that Perry has not released an album since the 2020 birth of her daughter Daisy, who she shares with her partner Orlando Bloom. Last summer, however, she teased that she is hard at work on her sixth studio album, saying that she has been “writing a lot.”

The stakes on this album will be high for Perry, as her last two albums Witness (2017) and Smile (2020) failed to match the commercial success of both her 2010 breakthrough album Teenage Dream or her 2013 album Prism. Perhaps that’s why she’s decided to leave American Idol so that she is free to focus all of her energy on this album.
