Reba McEntire Reveals All About Her New Sitcom – ‘We Can’t Wait’

NBC announced on Tuesday that it has picked up the country music star Reba McEntire’s new sitcom Happy’s Place for series, and she could not be more thrilled.

Just a few days before this news broke, McEntire spoke out to reveal some new details about her upcoming sitcom.

McEntire’s New Sitcom

“It’s brand new,” McEntire, 69, told Entertainment Tonight of the show. “We’ve done the pilot — it’s called Happy’s Place — and fingers crossed they take us to series.”

Happy’s Place will share some similarities to McEntire’s previous sitcom Reba, which ran from 2001 until 2007. McEntire’s Reba costar Melissa Peterman will be starring with her in this new sitcom, which will also have the “same producers, same show-runner” and the “same writers.”

Watch McEntire talk more about reuniting with Peterman on this show in the video below.

“We have been working on trying to get another show since we were canceled on the Reba show,” McEntire noted. “We got to do Malibu Country for one season. We’ve got the same producers, same show-runner, same writers and now we’re back with Melissa Peterman and Rex Linn, my boyfriend, and wonderful, wonderful cast and crew.”

McEntire’s boyfriend Rex Linn, an actor who she’s been dating since 2020, will be appearing in Happy’s Place as well.

“We had such a good time doing the pilot — we can’t wait to go back,” McEntire gushed.

NBC Orders Happy’s Place For Series

Variety reported that NBC announced on Tuesday that it has given a series order to “Happy’s Place,” which McEntire will both star in and executive produce. In the show, she plays Bobbie, a woman who inherits her father’s restaurant after his death. Much to her dismay, Bobbie learns that she has a new business partner in the half-sister (Belissa Escobedo), who she previously didn’t know existed.

The cast also includes Peterman and Linn along with Pablo Castelblanco and Tokala Black Elk.

While McEntire is mostly known for her country music career, she’s been taking various acting roles as of late that include the recurring role of June in Young Sheldon on CBS, the part of Sunny Barnes in Season 3 of Big Sky on ABC and the role of Kim Wheeler in the Lifetime movie Reba McEntire’s The Hammer. On top of all that, she’s currently a judge on The Voice on NBC.

McEntire Has Been Trying To Score Another Sitcom For Years

McEntire has been trying to score another successful sitcom for herself and her team ever since Reba was cancelled back in 2007.

“We’ve really been trying hard to do a reboot of the Reba show,” she said in 2022, according to Parade. “I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six and a half years.”‘

McEntire went on to say that the cast and crew of Reba had a ton of fun making the show, and that they want to replicate these good times again.

“So, hopefully that will happen one day,” she added.

Thanks to NBC, it seems that McEntire’s wish has come true. If Happy’s Place ends up being even half as good as Reba was, it’s sure to be a great show!
