As a former NXT Women’s Champion and NXT Women’s Tag Title holder, many could argue that Raquel Gonzalez has “done it all” on the brand. Will she be called up to the main roster sooner rather than later?
During a recent Wrestling Observer Live, Raquel’s main roster future was talked about. Bryan Alvarez believes she’ll have a shorter wait than most, to be called up.
Currently, the WWE wants her in NXT so she can participate in the Dusty Rhodes Classic tag tourney. Right now, no teams have been announced.
Interestingly enough, Gonzalez is one of a number of NXT stars that have recently worked dark matches on SmackDown and RAW. In fact, Pete Dunne and Tommaso Ciampa are also two talents that are being looked at for a call-up.
All three NXTers could be main roster superstars, sooner rather than later. Fans will surely be excited to see any one of these three hit the Red or Blue brand.
Over at AEW, TNT Champion Cody Rhodes returned and delivered quite the promo. More on this, below.
Fans are still buzzing about last night’s promo by Cody Rhodes. He set up a large ladder in the ring and blasted some truths.
He brought up CM Punk’s WWE pipebomb promo, and how the superstar’s return is the greatest one of the decade. Rhodes also noted that he built the “forbidden door” before it was ever a real term.
Cody stated that things have gone crazy since he’s been away from AEW. Rhodes took two weeks off to recover from COVID-19.
Cody notes during the promo that the “Undisputed Era” was simply a developmental faction from the WWE. He would also talk about WALTER’s name change.
Except, instead of referring to his name change as Gunther Stark, he called him Gunner McGillicuddy. Some longtime WWE fans may recall, Curtis Axel’s name was “Michael McGillicuddy” before it changed.
During the promo, Cody mentioned Malakai Black and Brody King, his new faction member. Rhodes lashed out at King for keeping his name while entering AEW.
He notes the legacy it holds with the one and only, Brodie Lee. Cody warns that when Negative 1/Brodie Jr. is ready to hit the ring in the future, he’ll be on King’s heels to claim his name.
In addition, Rhodes addressed the TNT Championship. As he notes, it’s built on an incredible foundation with past champions like Sammy Guevara, Miro, and Brodie Lee.
Cody reveals that people don’t give it the same respect as other titles because it doesn’t have “World” in the title’s name. Rhodes makes it clear that with Sammy Guevara as interim TNT Champion, an Undisputed TNT Champion must be determined.
A latter match was set up by Tony Khan for next week’s AEW Dynamite between Guevara and Rhodes. The winner will be declared the undisputed TNT Champion.
Lastly, Cody mentioned his free-agent status in the promo, too. He notes that he was sent a contract in the mail, but it wasn’t what he was looking for.
For those who didn’t catch Rhodes’s powerful promo, the video is posted above. A great segment for a great AEW return.
