Michael Richards Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance, Reunites With Jerry Seinfeld

Michael Richards, who played Cosmo Kramer on the hit show Seinfeld that ran for nine seasons in the ’90s, made a rare appearance on the red carpet Tuesday night.

He joined longtime friend and co-star Jerry Seinfeld for the premiere of the latter’s new Netflix movie Unfrosted.

The movie was inspired by a joke told by Seinfeld during a stand-up routine about the perfect breakfast invention – Pop-Tarts.

Hugs For Richards And Seinfeld

Page Six reports that Richards’ appearance on the red carpet marked the first in over eight years. Richards seemed pretty happy to be there, offering a hug for his friend.

Seinfeld and his former co-star posed for photos and waved to their fans.

Richards previously joined Seinfeld and their fellow Seinfeld alum Jason Alexander at the inaugural Los Angeles Fatherhood Initiative Lunch for Baby Buggy back in 2015.

A mini-reunion of sorts, sans Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Cosmo Kramer

Richards turned his role as Kramer – a bit role as the character of Seinfeld’s neighbor – into a global phenomenon and helped make Seinfeld one of the most popular television sitcoms of all time.

He would earn the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series three times for his portrayal of Kramer.

No other actor on the show won more. Louis-Dreyfus won once for her role as Elaine Benes, while Seinfeld himself and Alexander as George Costanza did not win any individual honors.

Still, the show won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1993 and the Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series in 1994.

TV Guide named it the greatest TV show of all time in 2002.

None of that would have been possible without Richard’s entertaining interpretation of the Kramer character.

The actor has mostly stayed out of the spotlight since 2006 when he launched into a racist tirade during a stand-up set at the Laugh Factory.
