The 50 year-old Hollywood star Eva Mendes is speaking out this week to reveal why she waited until she was in her 40s to have children with her partner Ryan Gosling.
Mendes and Gosling, 43, have been together since 2011, and they share to daughters Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 8. In her new interview, Mendes said that she has no regrets about waiting to have children until later in life.
“When I was 40, it was a big deal for people when I was pregnant, and it wasn’t for me,” Mendes told People Magazine. “And then I was 42 and I was pregnant with my second one and people were like, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. That’s why people have kids in their 20s.’ I was like, that’s the most sorry, asinine thing I’ve ever heard.”
“It takes more patience,” she continued. “In my 20s, I shouldn’t have even been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoking. I could not have raised kids in any other era of my life but now, for sure.”

After waiting to have children, Mendes’ daughters have become her entire life, as she has taken a step back from Hollywood to raise them.
“It was the easiest decision I’ve ever made,” she said. “I was older and I knew that my kids are going to be little once, and whatever I do or don’t do right now is going to affect them the rest of their life.”
When she made the decision to leave acting for motherhood, Mendes “didn’t feel that as pressure” and instead “felt it as clarity.”
“Your career comes and goes but kids, yeah, that was easy for me,” she explained. “They’re just formative years. I wanted to be there for all of it.”
Since becoming a mom, Mendes has learned that her words are powerful.
“It all matters when you have two little people watching you all day long,” she said. “It’s frightening but it’s good because it makes me try to be a better person every day.”

Gosling and Mendes met while filming the 2012 movie The Place Beyond the Pines. While attending the premiere of his new movie The Fall Guy on Tuesday, Gosling praised Mendes even though she was not with him.
“She is with the girls, and when she works, I stay home with the girls too,” he told Extra. “I couldn’t be here without her.”
“She’s also like my acting coach,” he added. “She has really become the best acting coach I have ever had, it’s endless how she helps me.”
When asked about Mendes being featured in People Magazine’s 2024 Beautiful Issue, Gosling replied, “It should just be her in the issue, basically, but I understand they have to have other people in there.”
