Flash Back: Conor McGregor’s First U.S. Main Event

Seven years ago this week, Conor McGregor made his mark.

On January 18, 2015, McGregor headlined his first U.S. event in the UFC, finishing Dennis Siver in the second round.

The UFC did it right, putting McGregor inside the TD Garden in Boston for the Irish fight fans to go nuts.

And they did.

“Notorious” was coming off a first round finish of Dustin Poirier the previous September. He had ran through Diego Brandao, Max Holloway and Marcus Brimage.

Siver, the ultimate tough guy, was expected to give him a challenge.

He didn’t.

McGregor showcased his incredible speed and skills once again, improving to 17-2 overall as he would move into a title fight next.

In July of 2015, he won his first UFC title, claiming the interim featherweight belt. He would unify it with a win over Jose Aldo to conclude the year.

Since that stretch, though, it has been interesting to say the least for McGregor. He has gone just 3-4 and been sidelined with issues involving the law and injuries.

He also made his trip over to the boxing world, facing off with Floyd Mayweather.

But let us remember the McGregor we all fell in love with as he collides with Siver in the video below:

On this day in 2015, Conor McGregor made his headliner debut stateside in Boston against Dennis Siver.

After this performance, McGregor would compete for the interim featherweight title and continue his rapid rise to superstardom.
