Clash Of Champions: Pay-Per-View Score Card Is In!

Clash Of Champions has come and gone. Even though it was not the best pay-per-view, there are certainly some implications for the future.

Even though Clash of Champions was better than most pay-per-views we had to go through last year, there are still a lot of things that could be better. Nevertheless, the pay-per-view did have some implications for the weeks to come. Here are our thoughts on Clash of Champions.

Clash Of Champions Main Event: Braun Strowman Versus Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman

I was a little dubious on how this match was gonna play out. As expected, the match started a little slow and it took awhile for everyone to warm up to it. Nevertheless, the speed picked up near the end of the match and Seth Rollins retained his championship.

I give this match a 6/10 because of the slow-burning nature of the match. But, the way the match ended made me turn it into an 8/10. Bray Wyatt was absolutely terrifying and provided an end to Clash of Champions that makes people want to tune in again.

Becky Lynch Versus Sasha Banks For The Raw Women’s Championship

Even though I have never been a fan of Sasha Banks’ Boss character, heel Banks is a thousand times better. The match held water story wise and opens the path for more matches between Banks and Lynch in the nearby future. So, a solid 7/10 for this one.

Kofi Kingston Versus Randy Orton For The WWE Championship

Kofi Kingston

This match was a hit and miss for me. While you could argue it had a good story, I beg to differ. I thought the match made little sense and the crowd seemed to reciprocate this feeling. Orton did his basic slower-style wrestling, even though Kofi attempted to pick up the pace. Even though I adore both wrestlers, I have to give this match a bad score of 4/10.

Erick Rowan Versus Roman Reigns

Rowan and Roman Reigns

The feud between Erick Rowan and Roman Reigns is probably going to play out within the next couple of weeks. While I expected Daniel Bryan to be the true mastermind, Rowan actually received help from Harper. So, the end of this match leads us back to the Bludgeon Brothers, a gimmick that did not work in the first place. Please WWE, these men are talented wrestlers, can we find something that works for them instead? Either way, this match was also a 4/10 for me despite the return of Harper.

Bayley Versus Charlotte For The SmackDown Women’s Champion

Bayley versus Charlotte

I think Charlotte looked visibly upset after this match and I cannot say I blame her. This was one of the matches I looked forward to the most, but also the match that disappointed me the most. There was not a lot of showcasing of skill, but more a short match with a dirty, fast finish. Even though Bayley’s run away from the ring was somewhat amusing, these women are capable of so much more. Unfortunately, this means I give this match a 3/10. I would have given it less than that, but Charlotte’s wrestling acumen and presence saved it somewhat for me.

Shinsuke Nakamura Versus The Miz For The Intercontinental Championship – Standout At Clash Of Champions

Shinsuke Nakamura Versus The Miz

I was hoping that The Miz would regain his Intercontinental Championship, but it was not meant to be. Despite the fact I did not get the ending I wanted, the match was pretty good.

Sami Zayn did an excellent job of being annoying. While it did distract considerably from the match itself, it was a nice change nonetheless. Shinsuke and The Miz are solid wrestlers though, so I do not think they really need all that distraction. However, having Sami Zayn as a mouthpiece could benefit Shinsuke Nakamura. It does make me wonder what the future holds for Sami though, especially when you consider how good of a wrestler he is. I feel it is a waste to a certain degree.

It could have benefited from a little less interference, but I’ll still give this match an 8/10. The Miz and Shinsuke Nakamura have that star quality many people lack, and the wrestling acumen to boot. It was one of the most solid matches of the night.

The Revival Versus The New Day For The SmackDown Tag Team Championships

The Revival Versus The New Day

Can I be honest here? This match at Clash of Champions would have been brilliant if not for the incessant screeching of Corey Graves. I found myself distracted so much by Corey’s commentating. Despite the fact that The New Day and the Revival are excellent teams, it seemed like Graves could not keep his attention on the match and was busier mouthing off to Saxton. Honestly, it definitely ruined the match for me.

The match itself was solid, but with a bit of a weird finish in my opinion. Nevertheless, good effort but due to Corey Graves’ commentating I give this match a 6/10.

Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins Versus Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode For The Raw Tag Team Championships

Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode

This match was one on the Clash of Champions card I did not look forward to seeing. The match was good in terms of wrestling acumen, but it fell a little flat in terms of storytelling. Because of this, I expect that this feud is completely over. After all, Bray Wyatt is now going up against Seth Rollins instead. As for the tag team championships, we will have to wait and see. Hopefully, we get one of the newer tag teams.

As this match fell a little flat in terms of storytelling, but still featured some good wrestling thanks to the experience of Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins’ presence, I give this match a 6/10.

Best Entrances At Clash Of Champions: Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross Versus Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville

Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss

When it came to presence at Clash of Champions, Alexa Bliss certainly came prepared. I think Alexa put in the most effort when it came to entrances and Nikki Cross certainly brought the energy to the table.

The match itself was tricky to rate. The tag team match was basic at its core, but there was the random 24/7 championship run-in, which certainly piqued my interest. It even had me laughing. So, even though it was a pretty basic match, I still give it a 7/10, as it kept my attention throughout.
