The upcoming installment in the Star Wars franchise is getting more exciting as news is released. And thankfully, for fans who can’t wait any longer to get a glimpse of the new movie, the first look at Star Wars: Starfighter is finally here.
First announced during the Star Wars Celebration last April, Star Wars: Starfighter is a standalone movie set years after 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The movie immediately grabbed hold of fans’ interest when we learned that Ryan Gosling would be the leading role. Since then, we’ve learned that along with Gosling, the movie will star Flynn Gray, Amy Adams, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, and Aaron Pierre.

Production began in August in hopes of releasing on May 28, 2027, and fans finally received a preview of the two lead characters, Gosling and Gray, while on set. Director Shawn Levy posted this stunning first look at Star Wars: Starfighter on his Instagram, showing off Gosling in rugged clothes at the forefront of the photo, with Gray in the background.
The photo is captioned with “Somewhere in the Mediterranean Sea #Starfighter”, and while not much is known about the movie, this does indicate that Gosling and Gray might be stranded somewhere together. And while there are several oceans in the franchise, this could be hinting at a new location.
We don’t know much about the plot besides Gosling playing the titular pilot who must protect young Flynn Gray from dark forces pursuing him. From the sounds of it, Gray is somewhat of a “Chosen One”, returning common and major Star Wars themes. Because Starfighter will be the first film to completely disconnect from the Skywalker storyline, this common theme will be familiar to fans.
Keep checking back on all the updates you need for the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter movie, which should hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
