We previously reported that the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Angelina Jolie was preparing to flee America after her bitter eight year divorce battle with Brad Pitt finally ended. Last month, we reported that Jolie was publicly bashing America, saying that she doesn’t “recognize” the country anymore.
Last week, insiders confirmed that Jolie is “ready” to leave America behind. Now, Jolie herself is opening up about “painful events” that led to her divorce. This comes as she prepares to flee America for good.
Jolie And Pitt’s Latest Legal Battle
Jolie, 50, filed for divorce from Pitt, 61, back in 2016. She did so after an alleged altercation took place involving herself, Pitt, and their six children onboard a private plane. A bitter divorce battle subsequently ensued that dragged out for eight long years. Indeed, it wasn’t until December of 2024 that this divorce was finalized.
Though their divorce is technically over, Jolie and Pitt are still battling each other in court over Château Miraval. This is the winery that they own together in France.
In new court documents obtained by People Magazine, Jolie revealed that she and her children have not spent any time at the winery because of the “painful events” that led to her and Pitt’s divorce. According to Jolie, she gave Pitt “control (and full residency) of our family homes in Los Angeles and at Miraval, without compensation, which I hoped would make him calmer in his dealings with me after a difficult and traumatic period.”
“To this day, the children and I have never again set foot on the property, given its connection to the painful events leading to the divorce,” Jolie wrote in the documents. “Post-separation, I immediately began to look for a new house for me and our children, initially renting a home while looking for a more stable solution.”
“Because I wanted to ensure that Brad remained an important part of our children’s lives, I looked to buy a property near his home,” she continued. “At the time, my savings were tied up in Miraval. And I had not asked Brad for alimony or any other financial support.”
Pitt Responds
A source close to Pitt has since fired back after the court documents were made public.
“This is a commercial business dispute, entirely separate from the divorce,” this insider said. “It’s unfortunate but not surprising that ‘excuses’ are now being made for failing to produce emails in discovery.”
This latest legal battle between Pitt and Jolie ensued after the actress sold her stake of the French winery to Tenute del Mondo, the wine division of the Stoli Group, back in 2021.
This didn’t sit well with Pitt, who immediately filed a lawsuit claiming that Jolie made this sale despite an alleged prior agreement that neither would do so unless the other person approved. Jolie fired back by filing a countersuit in which she alleged that Pitt has been “waging a vindictive war against” her since she filed for divorce in 2016.
In her latest court documents, Jolie referred to the winery as being “one of the first major investments” she and Pitt made together during their relationship.
“It was a focal point of our family life,” she wrote. “We were married there, I spent part of my pregnancy there and I brought our twin children home there from the hospital. To have such a sudden break from my home and memories has been hard, and it was especially difficult for the children to have their lives so disrupted.”
Jolie Prepares To Flee America
This comes as Jolie is planning to leave America, seemingly forever. Her and Pitt’s youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, will be turning 18 next summer. Once they are adults, and Jolie will no longer be sharing custody of them with Pitt, she’ll be free to move out of the country. Indeed, this is something that she has openly wanted to do for many years.
Back in August, a source told People Magazine that Jolie “never wanted to live in L.A. full time. She didn’t have a choice because of the custody arrangement with Brad,”
“She hasn’t officially put the house on the market, but unofficially it’s available. Ideally she’d like to do an off market sale anyway,” the source continued. “She’s getting her ducks in a row because the moment Knox and Viv turn 18 she’ll be leaving town for good. She can’t wait.”
The insider went on to say that Jolie “plans to relocate as soon as Knox and Viv turn 18 next year. She’s eyeing several locations abroad. She’ll be very happy when she’s able to leave Los Angeles.”
Jolie Bashes America
Last month, Jolie made international headlines when she bashed America publicly.
“I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country,” Jolie, 50, told Variety. “I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international.”
“Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous,” she continued. “These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”
It remains to be seen where in the world Jolie will end up. For now, it appears that her latest legal battle with Pitt is unfortunately far from being over.
For the sake of Jolie, Pitt, and their six children, we can only hope that this legal war will somehow ends soon so that everyone involved can move on with their lives. In the end, life is too short for all of this drama!
