No, this is not your usual Monday piece-it’s the WWE 2022 year in a Nutshell instead. And we are covering everything from Reigns to Rhodes and so much more.
It was a busy 2022, without a doubt. Some things changed, some things stayed the same.
That’s the point of having a WWE 2022 year in a nutshell. Same as we will be seeing on RAW tonight, but in reading form.
OK, not the same, because I am not just copying their lists and comments and all that. Sure, some things will be the same-we are working off the same 2022, after all.
And what a year it was, right? Some champs stayed the same, plenty did not.
We even end the year with a whole new leadership in place, one that didn’t seem likely this time last year.
What a difference a year can make, right?
So on that note, lets dive into…
WWE 2022 Year In A Nutshell: Reigns, Rhodes And More!
There’s a lot to get into, so let’s get this year in a nutshell started!
Best Match of the Year:
Honestly, does this really have any doubt?
I would think not, but let us end any debate quickly.
Seth Rollins against a very injured Cody Rhodes, Hell In A Cell.

The match was one of the best of the year across every since wrestling promotion, and with good reason.
Worst match of the Year:
Quite a few choices.
Ronda Rousey still has some green, she had some matches under consideration.
Vince and Austin was…awkward, but more on that later.

For me, the men’s Royal Rumble, because it should be almost automatically good.
And, the 2022 edition was really…weird. After the match, we heard plenty of issues about booking or not.
One thing for sure, we have not seen or heard from Shane since.
Star of the Year
Collectively, this has to be The Bloodline, right?
Roman Reigns has not been pinned all year. He exits the year with not one, but two belts, being the unified champ.

Jimmy and Jey Uso? Unified tag champs.
Sami Zayn? Could be on the verge of something incredible and long overdue.
Solo and Paul round it out.
Honorable mention for the prodigal son, Cody Rhodes.
Plenty of people questioned if he was as good as he thought he was…and while he only got a few months in WWE before his injury…he proved he is.
Spot of the Year
Not a wrestling move…but something I don’t think we’ve ever seen before.
Brock Lesnar used a tractor to damn near flip the ring at SummerSlam.

Now, the silly part is, in a last man standing match, he could have just used the bucket to pin Reigns…but still.
Jobber of the Year
How about…Austin Theory.
Wait…what?
Think about it. The Superstar took a ton of losses AFTER winning Money In The Bank.
On top of that, he had a really bad failed cash in, on the United States Champ even.
It all worked out, but this one feels warranted.
Outside of the ring…perhaps Johnny Ace, since he supposedly took a lot of the heat off of McMahon’s scummy stuff.
Upset of the Year
Kind of undecided on this one, to be honest. I feel like we lacked something like a 1-2-3 Kid over Razor Ramon.
That being said, I do feel that seeing Liv Morgan defeat Ronda Rousey a couple times might be it.
Holy Sh** Moment of the Year
Three, for me.
First, almost right out of the gate, Cody Rhodes stunningly left AEW and became the worst kept secret as he made a beeline for WWE.
It was shocking, because it was still under Vince’s leadership.
Botch of the Year
I could go with the Crown Jewel issue between Lashley and Lesnar, because those two should know better. But maybe it was supposed to be.
Instead, and it’s really hard to argue this one…how about Vince McMahon’s poor stunner at WrestleMania.

Commentary of the Year
Not a line, just a note.
I miss Pat McAfee. He is really good at commentary, whatever the sport might be.
LOL Moment of the Year
I have to go with RK-Bro and the Alpha Academy with their competition.
Sami Zayn in general gets an honorable mention, because the man is making folks struggle to not break character on live television, each and every week.
Noteworthy Moment of the Year
We have several, I am not going to limit it to just one.
Big E out indefinitely with a broken neck, suffered live on television.
Vince McMahon and his scandal, which ultimately led to his exit.
Triple H, once the heir apparent, then on the outs, now running creative.
Speaking of Triple H, we’ve had a steady stream of returns and fixes since SummerSlam.
Karrion Kross, Bray Wyatt and so many more are back in WWE, after being cut loose because a certain someone didn’t like them.
And to think, up until Vince’s malfeasance came out, the big thing might have been Mickie James, IMPACT Champion, in the women’s Royal Rumble.
Overall lowlights:
Shane McMahon possibly ruining the Rumble.
Vince McMahon…need I say more?
Overall highlights:
Cody Rhodes…Seth Rollins…so much to love, and do we run it back in 2023?
Triple H is pulling the strings now, and pushing all the right buttons.
After the final bell:
What a difference a year makes.
It wasn’t that long ago that fans figured Nick Khan and Vince McMahon were destroying WWE.
And, at the same time, we were hearing that Triple H-after a serious health issue-was further and further from the inner circle.
But then…it all changed, and changed in a massive way.
Fans might say that WWE still has room for improvement, but it’s so much more watchable now than it was when 2021 wound down.
And that, as they say, is the WWE 2022 Year in a Nutshell. Maybe I missed some things (sorry) but there was a lot going on, and only so much room.
