Whoopi Goldberg Gets Torched By ADL Chief Over Latest ‘Offensive’ Holocaust Comments

Yesterday, we reported that Whoopi Goldberg had doubled down on comments that she made earlier this year when she said that the Holocaust was not about race. Now, Anti-Defamation League (ADL) chief Jonathan Greenblatt is firing back at the 67 year-old “The View” co-host in a big way.

Greenblatt Slams Goldberg

“Whoopi Goldberg’s comments about the Holocaust and race are deeply offensive and incredibly disappointing, especially given that this is not the first time she had made remarks like this,” Greenblatt said, according to The Hill.

“In a moment when antisemitic incidents have surged across the US, she should realize that making such ignorant statements can have real consequences,” he continued. 

Greenblatt later went into further detail about this on Twitter.

“Yet again, #WhoopiGoldberg’s comments about the Holocaust and race are deeply offensive and incredibly ignorant,” he wrote. “When she made similar comments earlier this year, we explained how the Nazi regime was inherently racist.”

“The Nazis set out to exterminate the Jewish people, whom they viewed as inferior to the mythical ‘Aryan master race,'” he added. “They used pseudo-scientific theories of race to justify their anti-Jewish ‘race laws’ and systemic slaughter of millions.”

“It’s no coincidence that white supremacists in the US today echo the Nazis’ “master race” claim as they spread their antisemitic and racist hate,” he added. “Additionally, Whoopi’s comments show a complete lack of awareness of the multiethnic, multiracial makeup of the Jewish community. She needs to apologize immediately and actually commit to educating herself on the true nature of #antisemitism.”

Goldberg’s Latest Holocaust Comments 

This came days after Goldberg told the Sunday Times that the Holocaust “wasn’t originally” based on race.

“Remember who they were killing first. They were not killing racial; they were killing physical,” she said. “They were killing people they considered to be mentally defective. And then they made this decision.” 

When the journalist interviewing Goldberg pushed back by saying that the “Nazis saw Jews as a race,” she responded, “Yes, but that’s the killer, isn’t it? The oppressor is telling you what you are. Why are you believing them? They’re Nazis. Why believe what they’re saying?” 

“It doesn’t change the fact that you could not tell a Jew on a street,” Goldberg continued. “You could find me. You couldn’t find them.”

Goldberg Hit With Backlash

Goldberg has received tons of backlash for her comments on social media.

“Whoopi Goldberg continues to use the Holocaust as her punching bag. We told her that her comments harm us and she simply doesn’t care,” tweeted Holocaust survivor and author Lucy Lipiner, 89. “I survived the Nazis and the Holocaust, so I’ll be damned if I let a comedy has-been, peddling a fake Jewish name get the better of me.”

Jewish journalist Eve Barlow called out Goldberg for falsely claiming that she was “cancelled” unfairly for her original comments back in February. 

“Can someone tell Whoopi Goldberg that you can’t be canceled for anti-Semitism while still being given a platform on mainstream media?” she wrote. “Sincerely – a Jew who has been canceled.”

Goldberg’s Suspension From ‘The View’

Goldberg was suspended from “The View” earlier this year after making similar comments about the Holocaust. ABC President Kim Godwin responded by suspending Goldberg for two weeks to give her time “to reflect and learn about the impact of her comments.” 

“The entire ABC News organization stands in solidarity with our Jewish colleagues, friends, family and communities,” she added. 

ABC has yet to make any comments about Goldberg’s latest Holocaust remarks. It remains to be seen whether or not the network will show that it is firmly against anti-semitism by firing her.
