It’s a new SmackDown In A Nutshell, and we wonder if the blue brand gets off to a smashing start to September.
Yes, we are now in September. It’s the end of summer…kids are getting back to school.
However, the action is heating up in rings all over the wrestling world.
For this SmackDown In A Nutshell, we have the promise of a Universal Championship bout.
As if that wasn’t a smashing start to September for the blue brand…
We can expect more follow up on the budding Usos-Street Profits feud.
Will Becky Lynch show up? If so…will her presence further enable the blue brand to have a smashing start to September?
And, in case you forgot…next week’s show is a homecoming. As in, the blue brand goes back to New York City.
With our SmackDown In A Nutshell next week being Big Apple-sized, I am going to guess we have some things set up for that show too.
But that’s next week’s SmackDown In A Nutshell. For now, let’s talk about this week.
It is time we get into…
Let’s crack open this Nutshell and have some fun!
It’s a tough call…but flip a coin here.
Option A: Dom and Sami Zayn.
Or option B: Roman Reigns and Finn Balor.
Both matches were very good.
Not feeling a worst match existed tonight. I suppose one did, but I have none on my list.
Kinda torn here…
I really thought Dom did well.
And I really think Balor had an exceptional night.
So…flip a coin here too.
Hard not to love Dawkins’ insane leap over the top rope onto both Jimmy and Jey.
Like, I thought the guy was down and out…and then he wasn’t.
Dolph Ziggler.
Because Ric Boogs got his first singles win, clean, over a former world champion.
Looked good doing it too.
I guess I could say Boogs, because of Ziggler’s pedigree.
Two choices.
The Usos beating up Balor to soften him up for the Tribal Chief.
Or, Seth Rollins snapping and berserk on Cesaro.
Heyman has Brock Lesnar’s entrance theme as a ringtone on his phone?
Or, at least, for the purposes of tonight’s show, that’s what we were to believe.
And then, Big E, lurking as a janitor, to remind a flustered Heyman that the briefcase looms large.
We all saw it, right?
Honestly, it makes the most sense…
But I will admit, looking at how much time there was left, I was hoping for someone coming out.
As it was…a very subtle touch that was either an oops, or nicely done. Even Reigns looked a bit confused by it…so we shall see.
Having The Demon rise up does let Balor keep Reigns busy for a little bit longer, too.
Most of the Reigns/Heyman discussion was OK. I wasn’t fond of the Sasketchewan/Minnesota parts however.
Like…we’d expect his former advisor to know where the guy lives. Heck, the whole world knows where Brock lives.
That’s barely a lowlight, however. Just a weird nit for me to pick.
I was hoping we’d see Adam Cole…just because I am hopeful…but not happening.
Two other items…
One, I think the Toni Storm-Dolph Ziggler interaction was weird. Maybe that was what they were going for…but it was just awkward.
Two, not a fan of Logan Paul…mildly curious where they go with Paul, Corbin and Owens. As in, if it’s a tag, I am curious who Owens brings in as his 2nd.
But otherwise…the less we see of Paul the better.
From bell to bell, it was a strong show. Like, really strong.
Better that it being a good show, we got good setup for next week’s SmackDown In A Nutshell.
So, the blue brand got off to a smashing start to September. Maybe it’s me, but I was happy with the show.
The big takeaways as we move deeper into September and toward Extreme Rules?
Well, the blue brand is off to a smashing start…and next week could blow the roof off of Madison Square Garden.
Brock Lesnar has been confirmed for SmackDown.
Edge and Seth Rollins will have a SummerSlam rematch next week as well. I have a funny feeling that one sets up an Extreme Rules match.
Becky Lynch and Bianca Belair have their contract signing next Friday too. As much as we are supposed to see Becky as a heel...she still gets a pop.
It’s a loaded show next week on paper…and based on what should be happening Sunday night…it’s not wrong to wonder if WWE won’t have something else to surprise us.
