Top female superstar 2020

Choosing the top female superstar for WWE and AEW in 2020 was not an easy feat, as there were many impressive wrestlers this year. However, we ended up choosing none other than Hikaru Shida!

The Winner: Hikaru Shida

AEW Hikaru Shida

The top female superstar of 2020 is Hikaru Shida! But why did this AEW star beat out all the women in the WWE in our opinion?

AEW’s Hikaru Shida has the toughest job in our book. You only have to look at the women’s division in the WWE and compare it to that of AEW.

It is no secret that the women’s division in AEW gets far less attention. In spite of that, Hikaru Shida managed to shine bright.

She also had her fair share of challengers, including champions from other promotions. But even if she faced someone from another promotion, she gave them absolutely everything she had.

Hikaru Shida has also been quite the dominant champion. She has beaten her way through numerous challengers, and still finds herself on top of the women’s division.

While it is true that AEW’s women’s division needs more attention, Hikaru Shida transcended all expectations. For us, that makes a true champion!

1st Runner-Up: Sasha Banks

WWE Sasha Banks is a top female superstar of 2020

Some of you might state that Bayley is the one that deserves the number two spot. However, I actually believe it should be Sasha Banks

I have many reasons why Sasha Banks is much higher up my list than most end of years lists this year. However, one of the main reasons is how she presents herself.

When you look at Sasha Banks’ track record this year, she did spend some time playing second fiddle to Bayley for some time. But even when she played second fiddle, she always came out like a million bucks.

Of course, we cannot forget about the general star power of Sasha Banks either. Much like Charlotte Flair, the name Sasha Banks really means something, and this makes her a top female superstar for 2020.

Sasha Banks also ended her year right, as she finally took the title from Bayley. Their feud may have been long overdue, but the delivery was excellent.

Banks has one of the brightest futures and is a true winner in our book. She overcame mental health difficulties and came back stronger than ever.

Needless to say, Banks is more than deserving of being in our top female superstar for 2020 list.

2nd Runner-Up: Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss

Alexa Bliss arguably spent less time wrestling this year than the other people on our list. However, she did get our second runner-up position because of her contributions to wrestling overall.

Bliss has some incredible mainstream appeal, and this is a good thing for the world of women’s wrestling. And much like Sasha Banks, she always gives it her all, no matter what kind of role she has.

Alexa Bliss has been focussing on her storyline with The Fiend this year, and it has been great. In fact, her presence has made the Fiend gimmick better according to some.

While Alexa is a good wrestler, other female wrestlers tend to have a bit more in terms of wrestling accummen. Nevertheless, that does not take away from Alexa’s achievements overall.

Alexa is more than deserving of being a top female superstar of 2020. If anything, she has empowered a lot of women out there.

Once and for all, she has shown you do not have to be tall to make it in the world of professional wrestling. She’s also shown that you can be a superstar and a nice person.

That’s a winner in our book!

Honorable Mentions For The Top Female Superstar Of 2020

We also have some honorable mentions this year, whose contributions to the professional wrestling world cannot be forgotten. So, without further ado, here are our honorable mentions for 2020.

Asuka

Asuka

Asuka had a particularly strong year this year. While she has always been star material, she did not get the full attention she deserved until 2020.

Once Becky Lynch left due to her pregnancy, the spotlight was finally put on Asuka. And she ran with it!

Being a strong contender in the WWE is tricky when your main language is Japanese. But somehow, it really worked for Asuka.

I have always been captivated by her, from her time in the indies as Kana to her time as Asuka in the WWE. Asuka has that something special, which is rare to find these days.

While she certainly does not look it, Asuka is one of the older superstars on our list. Despite being older than most people on the roster, she most certainly can run with the younger ones.

Asuka most certainly filled the gap left by Becky Lynch leaving for a while. And, she is now WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion.

Bayley

Why Bayley Didn't Defend At TLC + Revival Vs. Harlem Heat Teased

Nobody can deny that Bayley finally had that great run she always wanted. So, she certainly needs to be mentioned as a top female superstar for 2020.

Bayley was named as the top female star by many other media channels. So you may wonder why I didn’t.

The thing with Bayley is that there is still something missing. Strangely enough, I have never been able to put my finger on it.

There is no denying that Bayley is an amazing wrestler that oozes passion for pro wrestling. And frankly, I do think that the lack of an audience this year has actually hurt her a little.

Bayley’s character has always been interactive. Whether she is face or heel, the audience is the thing that plays in her advantage the most.

Coronavirus saw the audience disappear this year, and maybe this is the reason why Bayley was not the winner in my list. I think she needs to find a way to be that icon without the audience there.

I do not take away anything from Bayley’s achievements this year though. In fact, many women will never reach the heights she did this year.

This year may have opened up some new opportunities for her.
