Tim Allen’s Sitcom ‘Last Man Standing’ To End After Season 9

Tim Allen’s sitcom “Last Man Standing,” which has long been one of the few shows to favorably portray a conservative leading character, is reportedly coming to an end after season 9.

‘Last Man Standing’ Is Ending

Fox confirmed to Entertainment Tonight on Wednesday that the upcoming ninth season will be the show’s last. The season is scheduled to premiere in January, and it will consist of 21 episodes.

“Last Man Standing” was abruptly cancelled by ABC in 2017, much to the shock of fans given the fact that the program was highly rated on the network. It was resurrected the next year by Fox, where it has run for the past three seasons.

Allen Releases A Statement

Allen, who starred in and executive produced the series, released the following statement about the show ending:

“I’ve been one lucky dude to have been part of Last Man Standing. I so appreciate the incredible support from our fans over this near decade of work. As we approach the ninth season, I just admire and feel grateful for all the hard work our wonderful cast and crew have done.

We had all considered to end the show after last season, but together with Fox, we decided to add a year so we could produce a full season to create the gentle and fun goodbye. I’m looking forward to a memorable and hilarious final season.”

Ever the funny man, Allen tweeted:

Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment at Fox Entertainment, also released a statement paying tribute to the long running sitcom:

“It has been an honor to be home for Tim Allen and Last Man Standing. Millions of families have long enjoyed the show because, perhaps, they see themselves in the Baxters. The loyal affection they’ve shown proves just how much this series has meant to them.

On behalf of everyone at Fox, a big, big thank you to Last Man Standing‘s brilliant cast, led by Tim, Nancy and Hector, as well as its writers and crew, headed by showrunner Kevin Abbott. We’ll be rooting them on throughout the season as they conclude what has been an impressive run.”

“Last Man Standing” featured Allen playing Mike Baxter, a no-nonsense, conservative, all-American male who is happily married with three daughters.

The show humorously chronicles what life is like for Baxter as the odd-man out in a home that is dominated by women.

The show also stars Nancy Travis, Amanda Fuller, Molly McCook, Christoph Sanders, Jordan Masterson, Jonathan Adams, Krista Marie Yu, and Hector Elizondo.

‘Last Man Standing’ Humanizes Conservatives

“Last Man Standing” has long been beloved by fans because it’s one of the only shows on television that humanizes conservatives and is not afraid to poke fun at liberals.

Given how liberal the world of Hollywood is, conservatives are typically villainized across the board in movies and television alike. However, Allen showed with his character of Mike Baxter that those with conservative beliefs are human beings just like everyone else.

While it’s sad that “Last Man Standing” will be ending, fans can take comfort in knowing that we have 21 more episodes of the show to enjoy next year.

Aside from that, Allen himself seems to be as busy as ever. Check out his PSA abut the importance of voting below!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
