If you’re like us and are still not over Game of Thrones, the hit HBO show that ran from 2011 to 2019 with eight seasons, then you’re in luck. While House of the Dragon is an amazing filler, for many, it’s still enough to fill the hole that was left after season eight of the main series. Thankfully, the next Game of Thrones spinoff has been confirmed, and this is everything we know about it so far.

Game of Thrones, the massive series based on George R. R. Martin’s series A Song of Ice and Fire, explored Westeros and Essos. The series followed nine noble families who fought for control over the lands of Westeros, all while an ancient enemy rose for their long-awaited battle. It was gruesome, political, adventurous, and captivating. It also caused quite a stir in season eight when fans were left with a pretty disappointing ending.
Even with season eight, fans were thrilled to return to the world in House of the Dragon, which explores the internal succession within House Targaryen at the height of their power, over 170 years before the iconic character, Daenerys Targaryen. But for many fans, it wasn’t enough.
The wait is finally over for those that need more to satiate their need more Game of Thrones content. The head of HBO revealed the release month for the next Game of Thrones spinoff show, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, based on Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg stories.

While it was supposed to air in 2025, it was delayed until 2026, so the updated reveal is huge for Game of Thrones fans.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘ story is based on Martin’s novellas The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. And while the stories are a fan-favorite, it’s known that this adaptation will be on a smaller scale compared to the other two series. But even so, it will be exciting to explore a new side of the world.
So what can you expect from the next Game of Thrones spinoff series? The official synopsis reads: “A century before GOT, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his squire, Egg, wandered through Westeros while the Targaryen dynasty ruled the Iron Throne, and dragons were still remembered. Great destinies and enemies await the incomparable friends.”
