Another pop star is gearing up for a documentary release, but it won’t be the same ones you’re used to. That’s right, Charli XCX’s upcoming mockumentary has been revealed, and the pop icon seems to throw shade at other pop stars’ documentaries.
In a new interview that was published just one day after Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour film announcement, Charlie XCX is asked about her upcoming movie projects. Per writer Anna Peele at Vanity Fair, Charli, 33, said that she “felt the market was already saturated with similar projects.”
“I feel like my problem with a lot of musician documentaries is that they often show the musician coming up against some kind of opposition and eventually overcoming it to be the hero,” the singer explained.
“And that’s just not been my experience, you know? Maybe it has been a lot of other people’s, and that’s awesome.” Charli continued. While fans won’t be getting a proper documentary from her, they will be getting a mockumentary about a pop star gearing up to lead her first headlining tour called The Moment, which is set for a 2026 release.
The “2024 period piece”, as Charli described it, is now a “tour documentary or a concert film in any way, but the seed of the idea was conceived from this idea of being pressured to make one.” She also added that “it’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen.”
Her point of view on tour documentaries was shared quickly after Taylor Swift’s, who is supposedly her pop nemesis. Taylor Swift’s trailer for the docuseries includes several intimate, behind-the-scenes moments from the tour, as well as glimpses of her romance with her current fiancé, Travis Kelce.
When asked about her rumored feud with Swift, Charli “declined to comment on the situation.” The feud supposedly started after believing the song Sympathy Is a Knife is about Swift. However, there has been no confirmation of their relationship.
For fans who want a unique and maybe refreshing look at the music industry with one of the top pop singers, then be prepared for Charli XCX’s upcoming mockumentary, which should release in 2026.
