Earlier this year, we reported that Rosie O’Donnell had fled the United States to move to Ireland. Last month, O’Donnell announced that she would be trying to relaunch her entertainment career overseas by performing standup comedy in Dublin.

Now, however, O’Donnell is learning the hard way that starting from scratch as an entertainer in a new country at the age of 63 is easier said than done. Go figure!

O’Donnell Whines That It’s Not ‘Easy’

Weeks before her first show, O’Donnell took to TikTok on Sunday to admit that relaunching her entertainment career is “not as easy” as she may have thought.

“I’ve got this sore throat starting, not exciting,” O’Donnell lamented. “[I have] Wimbledon on mute and I’m trying to memorize my show for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which is August 1 to 10. I’ve got about three weeks to do it.”

“I’ve got to tell you, it’s not as easy as it was when I was younger,” she continued. “I used to read it a couple of times and I’d be good.”

“A little overwhelming, but I’m very excited,” O’Donnell concluded. “Luckily I have a whole bunch of people working with me, and we’re going to get it done.”

O’Donnell’s Standup Comedy Show

O’Donnell is set to debut her new standup comedy show Common Ground at the 3Olympia Theatre on July 27th.

“Now living in her newly adopted hometown of Dublin, Rosie reflects on the move, the culture shift, family life, and the humbling and hilarious realization that maybe you don’t have it all figured out,” the show’s description reads.

“Rosie has fully written and test-performed a new hour-long stand-up set, and she’s going to put it to film in the coming months,” an insider told In Touch Weekly last month.

“Rosie still has a swagger and still has real comedy chops, and thankfully, in her new material she doesn’t come across as bitter or defensive,” the source added. “She’s just trying to make people laugh and she’s doing it by being herself.”

Backstory: Rosie O’Donnell Makes Major Announcement After Fleeing America To Move To Ireland

O’Donnell Flees America

This comes after a tumultuous few months for O’Donnell. She moved to Ireland back in January with her 12 year-old child Clay.

Last month, O’Donnell admitted to former CNN host Chris Cuomo that she fled the U.S. because of Donald Trump’s presidential victory. She even described this as a move of “self-preservation,” since she greatly struggled during Trump’s first presidency.

“During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places,” said O’Donnell. “You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating, I was overdrinking. I was so depressed, Chris.”

In a May interview, O’Donnell claimed to have no regrets about making this move.

“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” O’Donnell told Variety. “People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”

In another video posted to TikTok, however, O’Donnell admitted that “it’s not easy moving to another country.”

It seems that while O’Donnell is desperately trying to put on a brave face for both her standup comedy show and her move abroad, she might be secretly struggling with each.

In the end, we’re just glad that Rosie O’Donnell is no longer in America, and that she’s Ireland’s problem now!
