Rosie O’Donnell has become the latest celebrity to flee the U.S. Indeed, she confirmed in a video posted to TikTok on Tuesday that she has moved to Ireland.

For many years, we’ve heard celebrities threaten to leave. Unlike most of them, Rosie really did it!

O’Donnell Moves To Ireland

O’Donnell, 62, revealed in this video that she moved to Ireland with her 12 year-old daughter Dakota on January 15.

“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming,” O’Donnell said. “And I’m very grateful.”

O’Donnell went on to say that she is “in the process” of getting Irish citizenship. This shouldn’t be too difficult for her, as her grandparents hail from Ireland.

“I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she explained. “And here we are.”

O’Donnell also has four adult children who have remained in the United States. Despite this, O’Donnell appears to have no regrets about leaving them behind and moving abroad with her youngest.

“You know, I’m happy. Clay is happy. I miss my other kids, I miss my friends. I miss many things about life there at home and I’m trying to find a home here in this beautiful country,” she stated, going on to indicate that the political situation in the U.S. may have had something to do with her move. O’Donnell didn’t elaborate much on this, however, instead making a few vague statements.

O’Donnell Loves The ‘Friendly’ People Of Dublin

Not stopping there, O’Donnell proceeded to gush over the “friendly” people of Dublin, where she has been living. In the two months since she’s moved, O’Donnell has “met a bunch of people.” She felt the need to share the news of her move now because she felt “sorry for those of you who were worried and who missed me.”

“I just felt like we needed to take care of ourselves and make some hard decisions and follow through,” O’Donnell concluded. “And now as we’re getting settled, I was ready to post this and to tell everybody what’s been going on.”

It turns out that O’Donnell hinted at a move of some sort back in January. At the time, she took to her Instagram page to say that she “bought a little used car to tool around the countryside on the wrong side of the road.”

In this post, O’Donnell shared a photo of Dakota with her backpack beside her, seemingly on her way to school. This indicated that a permanent move had taken place, though fans had no idea that it was out of the country.

Ellen DeGeneres Also Flees America

O’Donnell isn’t the only celebrity to flee the U.S. as of late. Back in November, we reported that O’Donnell’s fellow comedienne Ellen DeGeneres, 67, had also left the U.S. to move to England. She moved there with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.

“Make no mistake about it. This is Ellen and Portia’s retirement,” a source close to the couple told Daily Mail at the time. “Neither one of them have any projects lined up.”

DeGeneres and de Rossi moved to Cotswolds, a rural area of Southwest England. Located around 100 miles from London, the area is popular among celebrities.

Other stars who call Cotswolds home include David and Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss, Patrick Stewart, Elizabeth Hurley, Jeremy Clarkson, and Damien Hirst. King Charles himself even owns property in the area.

Unfortunately for DeGeneres, however, it didn’t take long for this move to get messy for her.

It will certainly be interesting to see if O’Donnell and DeGeneres ever regret these moves in the future. For now, we wish them the best of luck overseas!
