Three months ago, we reported that Rosie O’Donnell had fled the United States to move to Ireland. Now, O’Donnell has reemerged to make a truly shocking admission. Indeed, it appears that O’Donnell wants to relaunch her entertainment career in her new home across the pond.
O’Donnell’s New Standup Comedy Show
O’Donnell, 63, has announced that she will be performing her first major standup comedy show in nearly a decade. She will be performing at the 3Olympia Theatre on Sunday, July 27th.
O’Donnell’s new show is called Common Ground.
“Now living in her newly adopted hometown of Dublin, Rosie reflects on the move, the culture shift, family life, and the humbling and hilarious realization that maybe you don’t have it all figured out,” the show’s description reads.
A source has since claimed that O’Donnell wrote this show to compete with her fellow comedian Ellen DeGeneres. Ironically, DeGeneres has also fled America to move to the U.K., settling in England. O’Donnell and DeGeneres have been rivals for many years.
“Rosie has fully written and test-performed a new hour-long stand-up set, and she’s going to put it to film in the coming months,” the insider told In Touch Weekly. “I guess the headline is that it’s a lot like Ellen’s special, except it’s funny!”
“Rosie still has a swagger and still has real comedy chops, and thankfully, in her new material she doesn’t come across as bitter or defensive,” the source continued. “She’s just trying to make people laugh and she’s doing it by being herself.”
The insider went on to say that O’Donnell’s “voice is needed in stand-up, and unlike Ellen, she’s going to get a warm welcome from fans. The bottom line is Rosie has more friends than Ellen does, and people are really rooting for Rosie as she finally gets back to her standup roots!”
O’Donnell’s Move To Ireland
O’Donnell moved to Ireland in January of this year with her 12 year-old child Clay. She opened up about this major move in an interview last week.
“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” O’Donnell told Variety. “People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”
“People are much more friendly and intimate with each other in a real way,” she added. “Every time I go into the pharmacy, I fall in love, because the pharmacist talks to you. Have you ever spoken to a pharmacist at CVS?”
“I call my friends every time, going, ‘I think the pharmacist has a crush on me,'” O’Donnell concluded. “But it’s a beautiful way of life. The smallness of this nation fits me very well.”

O’Donnell Shocks Fans By Fleeing America
O’Donnell shocked the world when she revealed that she’d fled the country to move to Ireland.
“It’s been pretty wonderful, I have to say. The people are so loving and so kind, so welcoming,” O’Donnell said in a video posted to TikTok back in March. “And I’m very grateful.”
“I was never someone who thought I would move to another country, that’s what I decided would be the best for myself and my 12-year-old child,” she continued. “And here we are.”

One week later, O’Donnell returned to TikTok to admit that it was “not easy” to move out of the U.S.
“It’s not easy to move to another country, and we really felt as a family this was the safest and best thing for us to do,” she said.

We wouldn’t be surprised if O’Donnell is about to learn the hard way that relaunching her entertainment career in Europe may not be as easy as she thinks it will be. Only time will tell how this turns out for her!
