Earlier this year, we reported that the comedian Rosie O’Donnell had fled the United States to move to Ireland. Now, O’Donnell is speaking out to claim that she recently saved the life of “a 90-year-old woman” who was choking at a restaurant in Dublin.
O’Donnell Saves ’90 Year-Old Woman’
O’Donnell, 63, is currently trying to relaunch her entertainment career in Ireland. After performing a standup comedy set at the International Comedy Club on Wednesday night, O’Donnell went to a restaurant to eat with her cousin Mary and friend Kiki. From there, however, it didn’t take long for their night to take a shocking turn.
In a video posted to TikTok, O’Donnell described herself as being a “hyper-vigilant person.” That’s how she noticed an elderly woman in distress at the eatery.
“I see a 90-year-old woman choking,” O’Donnell recalled. “She’s with two women who are in their 50s, I’d guess. And I jump into action like I’m an EMT – which I’m not, I’m a stand-up comedian and actress.”
“So I’m eating my tuna tartare and I go, ‘That woman is choking, that woman is choking!’ I get up, nearly knock over the table, and run over with Kiki and my cousin Mary,” she continued. “We run over to the woman and stand her up. We put Kiki behind her, and I put her fist in the right place. She starts to give her the Heimlich, which she hadn’t done before.”
As they tried to help the choking woman, the situation quickly escalated.
“I’m holding her hands and talking to her, saying, ‘It’s okay, it’s okay. Can you breathe?’ I put my hand near her, and she could not breathe at all,” O’Donnell recounted. “She started getting caught red in the face. My heart is going and I’m one of those people who is great in a crisis, but after the crisis I’m a mess.”
‘It Was Unbelievable…’
By this point, the elderly woman’s daughters had become visibly upset as the stress of the incident overwhelmed them. Thankfully, O’Donnell was able to step up to Kiki on how to carry out the Heimlich maneuver.
“My cousin Mary put a napkin in front of her and told her to get it out,” O’Donnell stated. “I pushed Kiki’s hand, and she got it, and something came out, a big wad of stuff.”
“It was unbelievable to me. I was thinking, ‘Am I going to have to do a tracheotomy?’ Because I took a course and they told you what to do if it wasn’t working and you were in a dire situation – and we were in a dire situation,” she admitted. “In panic mode, I go into thinking I’m Superman or something, and I’m not. I’m not an EMT. But when I see something like that, I spring into action.”
After the harrowing ordeal, the elderly woman, whose name was Angela, sat back down to finish her meal. O’Donnell found this entire incident to be nothing short of “unbelievable.”
“We were all kind of in tears, and I was doing my best to stay composed,” she concluded. “I say, ‘God bless you and God bless all of us that we were able to help each other’. So I go back to my table and I can’t eat. I can’t eat, I’m teary. I look over and there’s Angela finishing her meal! God love her, it was unbelievable.”

O’Donnell Flees America For Ireland
This comes after a tumultuous few months for O’Donnell. Indeed, she left the U.S. and moved to Ireland back in January with her 12 year-old child Clay.
Last month, O’Donnell admitted to former CNN host Chris Cuomo that she fled America because of Donald Trump’s presidential victory. She even described this move as being one of “self-preservation,” since she greatly struggled during Trump’s first presidency.
“During his first go-round, it was very difficult, and I got myself into some bad places,” said O’Donnell. “You know, I was very, very depressed. I was overeating, I was overdrinking. I was so depressed, Chris.”

‘It’s Not Easy…’
In a May interview, O’Donnell claimed to have no regrets about making this move.
“Never, for one moment since I arrived here, did I regret my choice,” O’Donnell told Variety at the time. “People have been so welcoming, so accepting, and they have a different view of celebrity in the culture here. They are not prioritized over other people.”
In another video posted to TikTok, however, O’Donnell admitted that “it’s not easy moving to another country.”

Many celebrities have threatened to leave America over politics. However, O’Donnell is one of the few who actually put her money where her mouth is by leaving.
Now that she’s saving lives in Ireland, we’re glad that this has worked out for everyone involved. In the end, America is simply better off without Rosie O’Donnell in it!
