Earlier this month, we reported that the Oscar-winning star Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. At the time, insiders were claiming that Kidman was desperately “fighting to save her marriage,” and that she’d felt “blindsided” by Urban wanting to separate.
Hours later, however, Kidman, 58, officially filed for divorce from Urban, 57. This came amidst rumors that Urban had already moved on with a “new girlfriend.”
Now, new reports are coming in indicating that Kidman is preparing to flee America as she grapples with this devastating divorce.
Kidman To Flee America
Kidman has reportedly applied for residency in Portugal. There, the actress is looking at properties in the exclusive Costaterra Gold and Ocean Club. Located an hour south of Lisbon, this is luxury development has been dubbed the “Hamptons of Portugal.”
Should Kidman buy a place at the Comporta resort, she wouldn’t be the only A-lister there. Indeed, other stars who own homes there include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, George Clooney, Paris Hilton and Princess Eugenie.
Kidman lodged her residency application with Portugal’s immigration agency back in July. Indeed, it’s been confirmed that Kidman submitted her paperwork to the Portugal’s Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).
Unbeknownst to fans, this came one month after Kidman and Urban secretly separated. The separation was Urban’s idea. Though Kidman fought to save her marriage, it appears she also immediately started making plans to flee the country, should she fail to win Urban back. Now that they’re officially heading for divorce, it seems that Kidman is ready to leave America for good.
Also in July, Kidman flew to Portugal to attend the mandatory in-person appointment at the immigration agency. She was not joined by Urban, who explained this away at the time by pointing out that he was on tour in the United States.
Kidman And Urban’s History
Kidman and Urban met back in 2005, and they married the next year in 2006. They went on to welcome two daughters together: Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14. Sadly, Kidman filed for divorce on September 30, citing “irreconcilable differences” at the time.
This was Urban’s first and only marriage. Meanwhile, Kidman was married to her fellow A-list Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 1990 until 2001. Their divorce was extremely bitter, which may explain why she was particularly so reluctant to split from Urban. Indeed, insiders have claimed that Kidman fought to save her marriage with everything she has.
“She didn’t want this,” a source told People Magazine after Kidman filed. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
Kidman’s Dual Citizenships
Though Kidman was born in Hawaii, she moved back to her parents’ native Australia at the age of three. She spent the rest of her childhood in Australia. These days, she holds dual Australian and U.S. citizenship.
Kidman has lived in Nashville, Tennessee with Urban for many years, choosing to raise their daughters there instead of in the crazy world of Hollywood. In the wake of this devastating divorce, it appears that Kidman wants a fresh start abroad.
