The world was shocked on Monday night when it was announced that the Oscar-winning star Nicole Kidman and her country music star husband Keith Urban had separated after 19 years of marriage. Now, new details about their split are coming to light.
Kidman And Urban Split
Multiple sources told TMZ that Kidman, 58, and Urban, 57, have been living apart “since the beginning of summer.” They added that Kidman has been taking care of their two daughters, who are ages 17 and 14. Kidman is reportedly “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone.”
“Keith has acquired his own residence in Nashville and has moved out of their family home,” the source explained.
The family residence is also in Nashville. Urban has been on tour for the past few months. He is next set to perform in Hershey, Pennsylvania on Thursday, October 2.
Kidman ‘Fighting To Save Her Marriage’
Other sources have since confirmed that Kidman has been left devastated by their separation.
“She didn’t want this,” an insider close to Kidman told People Magazine. “She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
“Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” the source continued.
As for Urban, he appears to be done with the marriage.
“Keith never sees Nicole. Either she is filming or he is on tour,” a source close to the singer told Daily Mail. “There was a lot of love between the two and they might not divorce. They been together for decades so there is a world which they can reconcile, but the way their pairing is now, they are not a couple.”
Urban allegedly instigated the split after his “unhappiness” in the marriage caused him to “call her out.” Insiders say that Kidman was left “blindsided” by all of this.
“The intimacy isn’t there, they are just going through the motions [of being married],” the Urban source claimed. If this separation gets them back together, that would be amazing, but Keith had to call her out that he isn’t happy.”
“She was blindsided, but we shall see how things go during the holiday season and his upcoming birthday [next month],” the insider added. “They have some work to do.”
Kidman And Urban Went ‘Separate Ways’
Kidman spent the summer in England filming the sequel to the 1998 movie Practical Magic with Sandra Bullock. There, she rented a luxury mansion that was once owned by Boy George.
Though Kidman clearly went to England for work, this still raised alarm bells about the state of her and Urban’s marriage in their native Australia.
“[Kidman and Urban] do make an effort to speak every day when they’re apart, but it is shocking how much time they’ve spent apart since Nicole’s mother died last September,” an insider told local Australia publication Woman’s Day earlier this month. “It’s like they both went their separate ways.”
Urban had never been married when he and Kidman tied the knot in 2006. Meanwhile, Kidman was married to the A-list Hollywood star Tom Cruise from 1990 until they underwent a bitter divorce in 2001. Given how notoriously difficult that experience was for her, we can understand why Kidman wouldn’t want to go through a divorce again.
While promoting her Netflix series The Perfect Couple in September of last year, Kidman confessed that there isn’t such a thing as a “perfect” marriage.
“There’s no perfect anything,” she said at the time. “Anything that’s presented as perfect… forget it.”
