We previously reported that the Oscar-winning Hollywood star Angelina Jolie was preparing to flee America after her bitter eight year divorce battle with Brad Pitt finally ended in December of 2024. Indeed, she is planning to leave the country after her youngest children, who are twins, turn 18 in July of this year.
Now, insiders are claiming that Jolie’s Oscar-winning father Jon Voight is devastated at the thought of his daughter fleeing the country. It seems that he has not only been begging her not to flee America, but also to at least visit him one more time if she decides to follow through with these plans.
Voight Is ‘Pleading’ With Jolie
“It’s hitting him hard,” an insider told In Touch Weekly. “Now he’s pleading with Angie to at least visit him one last time before she leaves town.”
Voight, 87, and Jolie, 50, have had an infamously rocky relationship over the years. Their relationship has taken a turn for the worse in the wake of Voight publicly speaking out about Jolie’s brutal divorce battle with Pitt in 2024.
“Jon and Angelina barely talk or see each other these days, but it’s not for a lack of effort on his part,” the source continued. “He still checks in with birthday and holiday messages, asking about the children and praying that one day they’ll be able to put their differences aside and spend quality time together. He misses Angie desperately.”
Jolie has long been open about her desire to leave America. Until now, she’s been unable to do so because of the custody agreement with Pitt regarding their six children. The youngest of these children, twins Knox and Vivienne, are turning 18 in July. This will allow Jolie to finally live wherever she pleases.
Last week, we reported that Jolie had put her Los Angeles mansion on the market for $29.85 million. This has sent a message to Voight that Jolie is truly serious about leaving America forever.
“Jon gets that Angie’s ready to start over,” the insider concluded. “But her move still feels a little cold-hearted to him.”
Jolie Feels ‘Stuck’ In Los Angeles
Jolie has previously said that she feels “stuck” in Los Angeles because of her custody agreement with Pitt.
“I am here because I have to be here from a divorce,” Jolie admitted to The Hollywood Reporter in August of 2024. “But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”
Jolie doubled down on this back in September of 2025 when she publicly bashed America.
“I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country,” Jolie told Variety at the time. “I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life… My worldview is equal, united, and international.”
“Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous,” she concluded. “These are such serious times that we have to be careful not to say things casually. These are very, very heavy times we are living in together.”
Jolie ‘Excited’ To Flee America
Once she leaves America, it is believed that Jolie plans to split her time between Europe and Cambodia, where she is a citizen and owns a home.
“She can’t get far enough away from the drama… the only way to take a break is to get out,” said Jae Benjamin, an actor and producer who has been friends with Jolie since 2005.
“L.A. is a toxic environment for her,” another insider told Star Magazine earlier this year. “But now the end is in sight, she’s excited and energized.”
Jolie is certainly free to live wherever she chooses. However, she might want to make peace with her father before she leaves America. Life is too short to hold grudges, particularly when it comes to family.
Given Voight’s advanced age, Jolie should consider making things right with him before she flees America. If she doesn’t, Jolie might just end up regretting it if something happens to Voight in the years to come.
