Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America. She then moved across the world to the United Kingdom. DeGeneres has since been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.

Now, however, rumors are swirling that DeGeneres is already preparing to come crawling back to America. Perhaps life outside of America wasn’t quite as easy as a longtime member of the Hollywood elite like DeGeneres thought it would be.

DeGeneres Puts English Home On The Market

Daily Mail has confirmed that DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, officially put their farmhouse located in Cotswolds, England on the market earlier this week. They are trying to sell it for a whopping $30.5 million. This comes as a surprise, as they’d quietly purchased the home for $20 million just twelve months ago.

After buying the home a year ago, DeGeneres moved there permanently in November after Donald Trump won the presidential election. Now that the home is back up on the market, however, many Americans are taking to social media to urge DeGeneres to stay right where she is.

“No, we don’t want them back,” one social media user commented. Another added, “Oh, please say that’s not true!”

“Oh no! Move to London or Paris,” a third user wrote. A fourth jokingly commented, “Donald Trump, quick revoke their visas.”

Is DeGeneres Really Leaving England?

Others, however, were quick to point out that this doesn’t necessarily mean that DeGeneres and de Rossi are heading back to the United States.

“I think they have two properties in England,” one social media user clarified. “They bought this property first, had it renovated, and lived in it for a month before moving to a larger, more modern estate in the same area.”

“They are moving to a larger house that will accommodate their horses, not coming back to America,” another wrote in agreement.

DeGeneres herself touched on her home being for sale during a rare public appearance in England last Sunday.

“We decided we needed a different house, and now we are selling that house,” she said. “So if anyone wants a house, it’s a beautiful stone farmhouse!”

“To clarify, I’m not selling the new one we now live in,” DeGeneres continued. “I’m selling the old stone farmhouse.”

DeGeneres Confirms Reasoning For Fleeing America

During this same appearance, DeGeneres was asked directly if Trump’s presidential victory played a role in her leaving America.

“Yes,” replied DeGeneres. “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”

DeGeneres went on to gush about her love for the United Kingdom.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”

“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” DeGeneres continued. “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”

DeGeneres concluded by seemingly taking a veiled dig at America.

“I wish we were at a place where it was not scary for people to be who they are. I wish that we lived in a society where everybody could accept other people and their differences,” she lamented. “So until we’re there, I think there’s a hard place to say we have huge progress.”

DeGeneres’ Move To UK Hasn’t Been So Easy

DeGeneres can bash America all that she wants to, but there have still been signs that her move abroad hasn’t quite been what she thought it would be.

Last month, it was reported that DeGeneres and de Rossi were having trouble adjusting to life in the British countryside. After living in sunny Southern California for decades, getting used to the dreary, gray weather of England hasn’t been so simple.

“It’s been difficult at times because they do miss the comfort of things back in America,” an insider told In Touch Weekly.

The source went on to say that DeGeneres and de Rossi have “navigated plenty of hiccups” over the years. This has reportedly helped them when it comes to the “stumbling blocks” of life in England.

“So they weren’t all that thrown off by the stumbling blocks they’ve faced in the U.K.,” the insider alleged. “They knew going into this that it wasn’t going to be totally smooth sailing. It was always going to be a challenge.”

Even if she stays put in England for now, we wouldn’t be surprised if DeGeneres does someday come crawling back to America. Indeed, it seems that DeGeneres might currently be learning the hard way that America really is the greatest country in the world.

Here’s hoping that DeGeneres ends up staying in England, because America is better off without her. You made your bed, Ellen, now it’s time for you to lay in it!
