Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America and moved across the world to the United Kingdom. In the months since then, DeGeneres has been laying low in England with her wife, Portia de Rossi.

Now, DeGeneres is speaking out to admit that her move to England hasn’t exactly gone according to plan.

DeGeneres Struggles With Farm Life Abroad

DeGeneres, 67, and her wife Portia de Rossi, 52, of Arrested Development fame left their longtime home in Montecito, California to move to the lush and sweeping Cotswolds, United Kingdom. There, they settled on a massive $18 million estate.

Unfortunately for them, however, they’ve since learned the hard way that life outside of America might not be all that it’s cracked up to be. Indeed, taking care of their large English country estate has been far harder than either of these Hollywood elites ever could have imagined.

On Tuesday, DeGeneres took to Instagram to post some footage from her English farm.

“Sheep are supposed to eat the grass so you don’t have to mow. Our sheep didn’t get the memo,” DeGeneres wrote in the caption.

Sure enough, the video showed DeGeneres and de Rossi tirelessly working to mow the grass in the large fields on their estate. Meanwhile, the sheep that DeGeneres had purchased to do this job can be seen lounging around without a care in the world. Needless to say, this is not what DeGeneres had intended them to be doing when she got them for her farm.

So much for that plan, Ellen!

DeGeneres’ Previous Mowing Fail

This comes one month after DeGeneres posted another video to Instagram of herself attempting to mow her land.

“Portia thought it would be fun to film my first time on the mower. She was right,” DeGeneres wrote in the caption. This was posted alongside a video of herself trying to push her mower through thick grass and weeds.

The video opens with a caption that reads “How it started.” DeGeneres can be seen attempting to maneuver her ride-on mower. Though she seems confident at first, she begins to struggle on the hilly terrain. The video ends with the caption “How it ended,” which comes up when DeGeneres is seen getting help from a man who pushed her mower for her after she appeared to have gotten stuck.

In the video, you’ll notice that DeGeneres no longer has her signature blonde hair. Instead, she is rocking a new brunette look.

DeGeneres Gets Sheep – It Immediately Backfires

At the end of May, DeGeneres returned to Instagram to post a video of herself feeding some sheep that she had just purchased.

“Turns out my lawn mowing skills are not great. So…..sheep,” DeGeneres wrote in that caption.

Last Friday, however, DeGeneres admitted that dealing with her sheep was not as simple as she had expected it to be.

“We got sheep to maintain the grass, but they keep escaping. I’m not sure if this is easier than using the lawnmower,” she wrote on Instagram alongside footage of the sheep’s latest escape attempt.

Fans Respond

Fans were quick to comment on the situation.

“This is hilarious, only you, Ellen would buy sheep that wanted to lounge at your castle instead of eating your grass,” one social media user wrote. Another added, “Not understanding the assignment sheepies!!! Maybe they are cuddle sheep?”

“Perhaps they felt sheepish about getting in trouble,” a third user quipped.

Clearly, life on a British farm far away from the comforts of America is a bit more complicated than DeGeneres was expecting! In the end, perhaps both she and de Rossi should have thought twice before they ditched their swanky southern California digs in favor of life abroad.
