Back in November, we reported that the comedian Ellen DeGeneres had fled America. She then moved across the world to the United Kingdom. DeGeneres has since been laying low in England with her actress wife Portia de Rossi of Arrested Development fame.

Now, DeGeneres is speaking out to make a huge admission about her new life in England.

‘We Just Can’t Keep Up…’

Last week, DeGeneres was interviewed by the journalist Richard Bacon in Cheltenham, United Kingdom. During their conversation, DeGeneres revealed what life in the British country has really been like for her.

DeGeneres, 67, said that when she and de Rossi, 52, first moved to England, they were riding lawn mowers on a daily basis at one point in an attempt to keep their pastures down for the horses. It didn’t take long for this constant maintenance to cause DeGeneres to get frustrated.

“We just can’t keep up with this,” she recalled telling de Rossi.

This led de Rossi to suggest that they purchase some sheep. However, it quickly became clear that this was a mistake.

“[Portia] said, ‘Let’s just get four sheep to put in the pastures with the horses,’ and we did,” DeGeneres recalled. “And the next morning they were just out and they were gone. They just climbed right out and then I had to buy electric fencing.”

The Situation Escalates

Unfortunately for DeGeneres and de Rossi, things only went downhill further from there.

“They were in there for a week,” DeGeneres continued. “Then one got out and then they all got out. And then I was like I have to build an actual fence. So we built a fence and it was so ugly, it ruined everything. So I had to pay to take the fence down.”

“I spent so much money on those sheep,” she lamented. “I can’t even tell you how much those sheep cost. It was Portia’s idea.”

Making matters even worse, DeGeneres revealed that they “constantly” clean up after the sheep due to them going to the bathroom everywhere on the field. Even the couple’s dog “would get to it.”

“Is this what you came for?” DeGeneres asked herself before quickly answering “yeah.” This caused the audience to burst out laughing.

DeGeneres Reveals Why She Fled America

In this same interview, DeGeneres was asked directly if Donald Trump’s presidential victory played a role in her leaving America.

“Yes,” replied DeGeneres. “We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in.’ And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.'”

DeGeneres went on to gush about her love for the United Kingdom.

“It’s absolutely beautiful,” she said. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”

“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” DeGeneres continued. “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”

DeGeneres concluded by seemingly taking a veiled dig at America.

“I wish we were at a place where it was not scary for people to be who they are. I wish that we lived in a society where everybody could accept other people and their differences,” she lamented. “So until we’re there, I think there’s a hard place to say we have huge progress.”

DeGeneres Struggles To Adjust To Life Abroad

DeGeneres can bash America all that she wants to, but there have still been signs that her move abroad hasn’t quite been what she thought it would be.

Last month, it was reported that DeGeneres and de Rossi were having trouble adjusting to life in the British countryside. After living in sunny Southern California for decades, getting used to the dreary, gray weather of England hasn’t been so simple.

“It’s been difficult at times because they do miss the comfort of things back in America,” an insider told In Touch Weekly.

The source went on to say that DeGeneres and de Rossi have “navigated plenty of hiccups” over the years. This has reportedly helped them when it comes to the “stumbling blocks” of life in England.

“So they weren’t all that thrown off by the stumbling blocks they’ve faced in the U.K.,” the insider alleged. “They knew going into this that it wasn’t going to be totally smooth sailing. It was always going to be a challenge.”

It seems that this debacle with the sheep was one of these “stumbling blocks.” Only time will tell if DeGeneres and de Rossi end up sticking it out in rural England, or if they come crawling back to America!
