Change In NXT Call-Ups, Goldberg Nearly Free Agent

With new leadership, there has been a change in how NXT call-ups are happening, and it’s a good thing. Plus, WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is nearly a free agent.

Change In NXT Call-Ups

Everyone knows WWE has had a change in leadership in 2022. That new leadership has given us a change in how NXT call-ups are handled.

That tidbit of news comes from someone fairly in the know as it pertains to the inner workings of both WWE and, specifically NXT.

Speaking on his podcast, Road Dogg discussed something good that has come from Triple H taking over.

Specifically, there has beena  change in how NXT call-ups will be handled.

You may recall some more recent call-ups under Vince McMahon were not so seamlessly handled.

Fans used to always look forward to the RAW after WrestleMania as one big night for NXT graduates to hit the main roster.

Another way to know? Watching a big NXT TakeOver, a talent close to a call-up usually had a signature match and some semblance of a send-off.

In recent years, that has all changed. We’ve seen talent called up randomly, and at times while in the midst of programs in NXT.

Sometimes those programs just end, other times their ends become effectively a foregone conclusion.

Now, per Road Dogg, the new management is making sure to give those in charge of NXT fair warning before a talent hits RAW or SmackDown.

This way, it allows the NXT creative minds to write the talent off of their shows cleanly.

Meaning, you know, conclude a program to satisfaction.

Knowing that all of the shows are scripted in nature, giving the NXT staff fair warning about when someone is expected to leave the brand makes sense.

It’s nice to see that approach is returning.

Goldberg Nearly Free Agent

There have been rumors about this man, but it seems WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg is nearly a free agent.

Some reports emerged in the last week or so that Goldberg had signed a new deal with WWE, running a couple more years.

That rumored deal would have seen him work just a handful of high profile matches.

But…it seems that these were, for now, purely unfounded rumors.

According to Fightful, sources close to the former WWE Champion have stated that Goldberg is, in fact, nearly a free agent.

Specifically, as of this moment, his WWE contract expires at the end of 2022.

Now, Goldberg could certainly sign a new deal with WWE soon.

Or, he might not, but he could be in negotiations and things could be fairly close.

Maybe, if he does sign a new deal, it could be for terms similar to those that had been rumored.

Either way, as of right now, there is no new deal. As things sit, Goldberg will be a free agent come January 1st.

Could we see the legend land somewhere else? I’d never say never, but the terms of the currently-debunked deal sound right up Goldberg’s alley.

He is a draw, especially so on the biggest stages-like WrestleMania and Crown Jewel.

Goldberg does seem intent on wrestling again, and based on his recent comments, it will be for WWE.

John Deegan

Introduced to professional wrestling in the 1980's thanks to Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event, John's passion for the medium was reborn thanks to ECW in the 90's. A former in-ring "talent" with a career 0-2 record, he finds it more rewarding, and far less painful, to write about wrestling now.
