On this week’s AEW Dynamite, Bryan Danielson announced that he is still not medically cleared to wrestle at either Blood and Guts or the Forbidden Door. With that said, he did note he’d be choosing a replacement, and buzz is that an ex-WWE star is expected.
As Danielson cannot wrestle Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door, a mystery talent will be chosen by him. According to the American Dragon, fans should anticipate an incredibly “technical” wrestling bout.
Obviously, social media began buzzing with speculation on who’s participating in the match. As such, Dave Meltzer chats about this on his latest Wrestling Observer Radio.
While he states he doesn’t know who it is “for a fact”, he does say that his bet is that Sabre’s opponent will be Claudio Castagnoli (a.k.a. Cesaro). Meltzer reveals that the way Bryan spoke about the challenger in his promo, it sounds like Cesaro.
Dave states that there is a possibility it could be someone else. Still, he can’t think of anyone else to put in that spot now who is available.
Cesaro’s contract with the WWE expired in February of this year. He would leave the company instead of renewing his deal.
Since his exit, Cesaro has laid low. However, he has hinted that a return to the ring is “coming soon”.
Ric Flair has to be the king of rants, and a recent one has caught the eyes of fans and media. More on this story, below.
The much-anticipated “last match” for Ric Flair has had him training with AEW’s Jay Lethal for months now. Flair is set to wrestle at the Starrcast fan convention on July 31st.
Therefore many naturally assumed that Jay would be part of the bout in some way or shape. That does not appear to be the case.
Ric Flair recently “buried” Lethal on his podcast, To Be The Man: Rick Flair Wooooo Nation Uncensored. With that said, Flair is one of the G.O.A.T.’s when it comes to promos and selling a storyline.
It’s hard to tell sometimes where Ric starts and The Naitch ends. The entire “rant” he recently had on his podcast could just be setting something up to happen between him and Lethal during the match.
Lethal was supposed to visit Flair’s podcast this week. Unfortunately, he was a no-show.
Flair notes that Jay will not be a part of his “Last Match” show. He states this is because of an “attitude” problem.
Flair also states during his podcast rant that Jay wants to be a part of the show. However, even though Flair is a co-owner of the event, he doesn’t have the authority to add Lethal to the bout.
The Nature Boy states that he believes Lethal is “upset” about this. He also notes that Jay will “get over it”.
During his podcast, Ric says that you can’t make chicken salad from chicken “poop” (using profanity). This “rant” might be an angle to hype up the match and promote Lethal in the mix.
At the age of 73, Ric will be participating in his “last match” in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium. Should be an interesting show.
