Actor and comedian Russell Brand was baptized as a Christian this past weekend, after announcing last week that he planned on “taking the plunge.”
“This Sunday, I’m taking the plunge. I’m getting baptized,” he proudly declared in a social media post.
“What’s been explained to me is, it’s an opportunity to die and be reborn,” added Brand. “An opportunity to leave the past behind and be reborn in Christ’s name.”

In a follow-up post, Brand revealed that his baptism took place in the River Thames in England.
It was clear from his video that the experience was incredibly fulfilling.
“Yesterday I got baptized, and it was an incredible, profound experience,” he explained. “Many aspects of it were very intimate and personal.”
Brand, who has made a name for himself in the Hollywood films Get Him To The Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, even noted that his baptism provided a kind of euphoria he has never experienced through alternate means.
“The truth is this, as a person who has in the past, taken many, many substances and always been disappointed with their inability to deliver the kind of tranquility and peace and even transcendence that I’ve always felt I’ve been looking for,” he began.
“Something occurred in the process of baptism that was incredible; overwhelming,” he added.

Brand joins a host of other celebrities who, like him, have turned their life over to Christ in recent years.
As The Mix has reported previously, Justin Bieber shared intimate pictures on Instagram in 2020, featuring himself and his wife Hailey Baldwin getting baptized together.
Two years prior to that, actor and TV host Mario Lopez also took the plunge and committed his life to Christianity and the teachings of Jesus.
The former “Saved by the Bell” star took a trip to Israel and was baptized in the Jordan River – the same river that Jesus himself was baptized.
Just before this past Christmas, wrestling legend Hulk Hogan also got baptized.
“Total surrender and dedication to Jesus is the greatest day of my life,” he said in a post to his followers. “No worries, no hate, no judgment… only love!”
Brand, meanwhile, is ecstatic over his baptism.
“I felt changed. Transitioned,” he stated. “I feel as if some new resource within me has switched on.”
Congratulations on this new chapter in your life, Russell.
