While Brock Lesnar ended up taking the 2022 Royal Rumble match, a recent report reveals that Matt Riddle was originally set to win. More details on this, are below.

Matt Riddle Was Set To Win Royal Rumble

According to PW Insider, the plans WWE had for the Rumble changed multiple times over the week. However, the front-runner to win had been Matt Riddle.

That is until the very final decision was brought down to have Brock Lesnar score the match. There was a point when the idea was brought down for Randy Orton to win, as they were in his hometown.

Riddle entered the 2022 Royal Rumble at number 20 and was the 27th man thrown over the top rope. Interestingly enough, he was eliminated by Brock Lesnar.

Matt Riddle Didn’t Win Royal Rumble, But Will Be At The Elimination Chamber

Current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley is set to defend his title at the Elimination Chamber event in Saudi Arabia on February 19. Matt Riddle and Brock Lesnar will be two of the five challengers.

The other three include AJ Styles, Austin Theory, and Seth Rollins. Should be an interesting match.

With the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view (PPV), could Matt Riddle officially turn to singles competition? What will become of RKBro?

Backstage RKBro Plans

The Twitter handle WrestleVotes has provided some information on RKBro’s backstage plans. According to the tweet, the company originally wanted them to have a match at SummerSlam.

That was held off. The idea was to hold their feud off until WrestleMania 38.

It does seem that some WWE creative members want them split up and battling for the WWE title. This is interesting, considering that Riddle is now involved in the Elimination Chamber match in February.

RKBro’s History

Matt Riddle recently visited Peter Rosenberg’s Cheap Heat. He talked about his original pitch of RKBro.

In fact, Matt notes it was an idea he had “in the back of his mind” for some time. Still, Riddle reveals many laughed at the idea when they first heard it.

Matt states he was talking about the RKBro pitch about a month before it happened. Riddle notes he mentioned it to writers and some “boys” in the back.

While many laughed, the concept ended up coming to fruition. Matt states RKBro was “wishful” thinking.

However, while Riddle thought it “would never happen”, a couple of weeks later, it did. Both Randy Orton nor Riddle had no opponent at RAW.

In April of last year, Matt interrupted Randy Orton during a backstage interview. Riddle suggested forming a tag team, while Orton fluffed it off.

The two would be part of the match, where Riddle scored the win, thanks to a roll-up. As time would wear on, Randy seemed to lighten his feelings towards Matt.

The two would become a bonafide tag team by May. They even won the RAW Tag Team Championships at the 2021 SummerSlam event.

RKBro would hold the tag titles for 142 days, before losing them to Otis and Chad Gable. They had quite the run.

Could Riddle win the WWE title at Elimination Chamber? Could this be what sets off an RKBro split?
