Roman Reigns is not only WWE’s Tribal Chief and Head of the Table, he’s also currently SmackDown’s Universal Champion. As of Wednesday, he hit a major milestone and the company took the time to honor the Big Dog and his accomplishments.
Roman Reigns has officially hit the 500-day mark in his Universal Championship reign. WWE took the time to celebrate this milestone via their social media accounts.
Roman won the title at the Payback pay-per-view (PPV) in August 2020. He defeated both Braun Strowman and “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in a Triple Threat match.
During his most recent title run, he’s defended this championship against Daniel Bryan, Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, Kevin Owens, John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Edge, and Cesaro. In fact, the Big Dog hasn’t lost a WWE match since the 2019 TLC event where he faced Baron Corbin.
Interestingly enough, Roman is poised to surpass Brock’s record for the longest reign in the Universal Championship’s history. Lesnar held the title for 503 days.
Brock’s record-breaking reign spanned from WrestleMania 33 (2017) to the 2018 SummerSlam event. It’s at this PPV that he dropped the title to Roman.
Roman Reigns will likely head into the Road to WrestleMania season as a champion. Although, he will be facing Seth Rollins at the next WWE PPV, the 2022 Royal Rumble event.
Could his record-breaking reign come to an end? Fans will have to wait to find out.
Roman Reigns entered the land of the WWE in 2010 when he signed with the company and hit FCW and then NXT. By 2012, he was called up to the main roster.
Since, Reigns has had nothing short of a stellar sports-entertainment career. He’s been WWE Champion three times, Universal Champion twice, IC and U.S. Champion, plus also held the Tag Titles (with Rollins), and won the 2015 Royal Rumble.
Over at AEW, a young superstar with tons of potential is Wardlow. If the WWE is calling, would he cross over to the “other side”?
AEW’s Wardlow has a bright future ahead. In fact, news broke recently that the WWE would be interested in signing the talent.
PW Insider recently spoke with the superstar. He was very transparent about his AEW status and his wrestling future.
But would he jump ship to the WWE? Wardlow confirmed that he is very happy with the AEW.
He went on to note that the promotion made his life-long and “wildest” dreams come true when they signed him. He feels beyond blessed and doesn’t think the grass is any greener on the “other side”.
Wardlow adds he likes the way people are treated at AEW, plus the schedule. He likes how he is treated and the way the company is run as a whole.
So it looks as if Wardlow is staying put. He’s happy with AEW and looking forward to a big year in 2022.
He’ll likely get his split from MJF, soon. This means he’ll be branching out on his own, and ready to shine.
