Prince Harry privilege out of touch quit job joy

Prince Harry showed once again just how privileged he really is this week when he told people that they should simply quit their job if it’s not bringing them joy.

Easy for him to say as a multi-millionaire royal, eh? If only we all had Prince Charles to pay our bills. Remember this?

Prince Harry Encourages People To Quit Their Jobs

37-year-old Harry told Fast Company Magazine that some of the many job resignations that have happened during the COVID-19 pandemic are not bad.

“In fact, it is a sign that with self-awareness comes the need for change,” Harry said while promoting his mental health-focused startup BetterUp. “Many people around the world have been stuck in jobs that didn’t bring them joy, and now they’re putting their mental health and happiness first. This is something to be celebrated.”

Harry went on to say that people who quit their jobs during COVID helped to bring about a cultural shift that was desperately needed.

“While on the surface it looks like these last couple of years brought all these issues to the foreground, the reality is these struggles and issues have been brewing for quite some time. We’re just at the beginning of the mental health awakening,” he said. “This work has never been more important because people are finally paying attention, and a big component of this mission is building awareness and continuing to pioneer the conversation.”

Harry Quit His Own Job As A Working Royal

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle famously stepped down from their jobs as working royals last year. The couple then proceeded to hang out in Canada for a while before moving across the world to settle in super elite Santa Barbara, California.

Since moving to California, the royal couple has signed multi-million dollar deals to create content for Netflix and Spotify.

In his Apple TV docuseries about mental health, Harry claims that he and Meghan “tried to make it work” as royals.

“It went to a whole new depth with not just traditional media but also social media platforms as well. I felt completely helpless. I thought my family would help but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, got met with total silence or total neglect,” Harry said.

“We spent four years trying to make it work,” he added. “We did everything that we possibly could to stay there and carry on doing the role and doing the job, but Meghan was struggling.”

Prince Harry Is Out Of Touch With Reality

It’s the epitome of privilege to assume someone can walk away from a paying job if it doesn’t bring them joy.

As a prince of the Royal Family, he will always have a fortune to fall back on. He didn’t grow up watching his parents work to earn a living. Nor has he himself ever had to work to make a dollar.

It’s a very different story, however, for those of us in the working class. Some folks are just trying to put food on the table for their families. Harry must realize that the average person does not have the luxury of just up and quitting their job.

And to say something like this leading up to the holidays. Knowing how many parents out there scrape and scrimp just to have a gift under the tree for their kids.

Harry might want to check his privilege.
