Kelly Clarkson’s bank account is going to be a lot lighter after a judge ordered her to pay almost $200,000 in support every month to her estranged husband Brandon Blackstock after their divorce.

Clarkson filed for divorce in June 2020 after seven years of marriage.

In September 2020, she told Willie Geist on Sunday Today, “I mean, it’s no secret. My life has been a little bit of a dumpster… personally, it’s been a little hard the last couple of months. I’ve been talking to friends that have been through divorce. I don’t know how people go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”

The couple cited “irreconcilable differences” after spending several months in quarantine in Montana amid the coronavirus pandemic. And, that split is coming at a high financial cost to Clarkson.

The singer-turned-talk show host will be forking over $150,000 per month in spousal support and $45,601 per month in child support after a Los Angeles judge’s ruling.

That’s about $2.4 million a year.

Clarkson was also dealt another blow.

The judge also ordered her to pay $1.25 million in Blackstock’s legal bills for their divorce which still is ongoing.

While this might appear to be a windfall of cash to most people, Blackstock was reportedly seeking $436,000 per month.

Clarkson made out with paying him less than half of that. So, although she has a steep price tag, it could have been a lot worse.

Blackstock is a talent manager who has in the past represented Rascal Flatts and his estranged wife’s co-host on “The Voice,” Black Shelton.

Clarkson was also represented by Blackstock during their marriage.

The couple have two children, River Rose, age 6, and son Remington Alexander, 4. Blackstock also has two teenaged children from a previous relationship.

While Clarkson will have to pay Blackstock a large sum every month, she has been granted primary custody of the their daughter and son.

Clarkson’s Monthly Income

This is a hefty bill for the “Since You’ve Been Gone” singer, but it should be manageable for her.

She earns about $1,583,617 according to court documents.

Clarkson earns royalties from her songs. Her talk show and her role as a coach on “The Voice” help cushion her finances.

She will have to shave some off the top for Blackstock, but most people who have gone through a divorce can confirm that sometimes the payout is worth it.

In December of last year, Kelly Clarkson shared with Garth Brooks that his song “The Dance” has helped her cope with her divorce.

This song about grief is often associated with a death, but Clarkson shared that she saw it as a tool for grieving the loss of her marriage.

She told Brooks the song reminds her that even through it is painful right now that it was worth it. You can watch that interaction in the video below.
