Flashback: Kirstie Alley Claimed She Was ‘Black-Balled’ By Hollywood For Supporting Trump

Over the course of Donald Trump’s presidency, former “Cheers” actress Kirstie Alley was one of the few celebrities in Hollywood that was brave enough to openly support him.

In a new interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson that aired on Wednesday, Alley opened up about the massive amount of hateful backlash she got for admitting that she voted for Trump.

Kirstie Alley: Producer Warned Her Not To Publicly Support Trump

During her Tucker Carlson interview, Alley said that she had first been warned against publicly supporting Trump by a producer who she did not name.

This producer was also a Trump supporter, but decided to stay quiet about it due to fears that he or she “would never work again.”

Though Alley was advised by this person that she’d lose roles if she spoke out in favor of Trump, she decided to do so anyway. What happened afterwards, however, showed Alley that she may have made a mistake. 

“People go, ‘You’re so brave.’ I go, ‘No, I think I’m stupid,’” she told Carlson. “Because honestly, it is a real situation. And it is a real blackballing situation. And it’s so strange to me because artists are free-thinkers for the most part.”

She added that she can remember a time in the 1980s when different political views were welcome in Hollywood. Those days, sadly, are long gone now.

Hollywood Ostracizes Her

Alley has not starred in a movie since 2015. The Look Who’s Talking star feels she’s been blacklisted by the industry in a way that even actors who took part in illegal activities would not be. 

“You can be cooking meth and sleeping with hookers but as long as you didn’t vote for Trump [you’re fine],” she said. “I feel like I’m in the ‘Twilight Zone’ a bit with the whole concept of it.”

Alley even said that she’s been ostracized by many of her fellow celebrities, which has led her to question some of the friendships in Hollywood that she’s had for years.

“On Twitter I had many celebrities follow me and now I think three follow me,” she said. “I’m the same person. I’m the girl who voted for Obama, twice. And I’m like, ‘Oh, so you liked me when I voted for Obama, and now you’re this?’ And it’s made me have to rethink, weirdly, my whole friendships, all my friendships.”

Trump Supporters Can Relate To Kirstie Alley

Anyone who voted for Trump will be able to relate to what Alley said. At this point, we’ve all experienced the hateful wrath of the so-called “open minded” left in some way.

It’s sad that someone as talented as Kirstie Alley, who brought laughter and joy to fans for decades, was blacklisted from Hollywood simply for her political beliefs. 

In this new age of cancel culture, your whole world can change in a blink. Let’s hope we start to see more change for the good – and soon.
