The Hollywood star Dennis Quaid, 70, recently won the CinemaCon’s cinema icon award during the Big Screen Achievement Awards. During his acceptance speech, the devoutly Christian actor gave credit to God for his success.
Quaid ended his acceptance speech by expressing his gratitude “to my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, for blessing me well beyond what I deserve.”
“I’ll keep making movies,” he promised. “You guys keep doing what you do. Thank you very much. God bless you.”
Quaid celebrated his 70th birthday right before the awards show. Earlier in his speech, he told the audience that he’s having even more fun with his Hollywood career as he gets older.
“I’m on my sixth decade in this wonderful business,” Quaid said. “To tell you the truth, I really do feel like I have more fun.”
“I enjoy it now more than when I was young and hungry — not trying to get anywhere,” he continued. “I do it because I love it and that makes me kind of the luckiest guy on Earth, to tell you the truth.”
When he isn’t acting, Quaid said that he enjoys spending time with his “beautiful wife” Laura, 31, “who makes every day heaven for me when I wake up.”

Quaid has long been open about his strong Christian faith. Last year, he opened up about how returning to his Christian roots helped him to overcome a crippling drug addiction in the 1980s.
Though he was raised a Christian, he strayed from his faith as he succumbed to the temptations of fame as he became a young star. This is sadly a fate that befalls many young stars in Hollywood.
It was only when Quaid started reading the Bible that he was able to overcome his addiction to drugs.
“That’s when I started developing a personal relationship,” he said, according to People Magazine. “Before that, I didn’t have one, even though I grew up as a Christian.”
Last year, Quaid released his album “Fallen: A Gospel Record For Sinners,” a project that meant a lot to him.

Quaid grew up in the Baptist church, and he had a passionate love for hymns as a child. This played a big role in leading him to write an album that isn’t too “churchy,” and is instead more “self-reflective.”
“All of us have a relationship with God, whether you’re a Christian or not,” he explained.
Quaid went on to say that as humans, “we’re looking for…the joy of life, which is our gift, actually, the relationship with God that we all have. It’s at the bottom of it, the joy of being alive.”
Watch Quaid talk more about this in the video below.
These days, Quaid is still leaning on his faith just as much as ever, so it comes as no surprise that he gave so much credit to God for his success in his recent acceptance speech.
“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been,” he gushed.
It’s rare to find a Hollywood star that is brave enough to be so open about their Christian faith, as being a devout person of God is no longer popular in many parts of the entertainment industry. Bless Quaid for continuing to use his platform to spread the word of God!
