Drew Carey Reveals When He Wants To Retire From ‘The Price Is Right’

Drew Carey has been hosting the beloved game show The Price Is Right ever since the late great Bob Barker retired in 2007 after hosting the show for 35 years. In a new interview, Carey is opening up about when he would ever retire, and fans of his will love what he had to say.

‘I’m Not Going Anywhere’

Carey, 65, defiantly told Entertainment Tonight that he has no plans to ever retire from The Price Is Right.

“I’m not going anywhere,” Carey explained. “I think Bob made a mistake by retiring. I’m not gonna make that same mistake.”

“As long as my heart is ticking and they want me to be on the show, I think I’m gonna do The Price is Right,” he continued. “I just love it. I think I was made for it.”

Carey went on to confirm that he fully intends to keep hosting The Price Is Right until his death.

“I want to die on stage with a microphone in my hand,” he said, according to Fox News.

Carey Honors Barker

Barker was the face of The Price Is Right for decades until he retired in 2007 at the age of 84. He would live for many more years, only dying in 2023 at the age of 99, just a few months before what would have been his 100th birthday. Barker had reportedly been battling Alzheimer’s disease in the final years of his life.

While Carey loves his job, he also wants to give credit to Barker for his hosting skills.

“He was so good at this,” Carey said. “He was so good at relating to people and getting them to be relaxed and be themselves. You watch his demeanor and his attitude. He never seemed stressed.”

Carey explained that being laid back in that way doesn’t come naturally to him, so he learned a lot studying Barker’s hosting style.

“I’ve learned to relax while I’m onstage and not be so uptight about what’s going on,” he said. “I just have to own the show and make it like my living room, because he was so comfortable in front of a camera.”

Carey’s History

Prior to hosting The Price Is Right, Carey hosted the hugely popular improv comedy show Whose Line Is It Anyway? from 1998 until 2007, according to IMDB. Carey also had his own eponymous sitcom “The Drew Carey Show,” which ran from 1995 until 2004.

Throughout his career, Carey has won three People’s Choice Awards and been nominated for a Grammy for Best Spoken Comedy album for 1997’s “Dirty Jokes And Beer: Stories Of The Unrefined.”

When Barker retired from The Price Is Right, it was hard to imagine the show going on without him with a different host, but Carey has more than met the occasion of taking his place. In the end, it’s great to see that Carey plans to keep hosting The Price Is Right for the rest of his life!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
