Felicity Huffman Goes From Prison To Primetime: Snags ABC Sitcom Lead After College Admissions Scandal

One year after completing her prison sentence and just weeks after finishing her supervised release for her role in the college admissions scandal, the former “Desperate Housewives” star Felicity Huffman is relaunching her Hollywood comeback with her first acting gig since on an upcoming ABC comedy.

Some fans are thrilled for her:

Others, not so much:

Felicity Huffman Is Cast In New ABC Comedy

Huffman, a 57-year-old Emmy winner and Oscar-nominee, has been cast in a leading role in a single camera comedy show that has landed a big pilot production commitment on ABC.

She won an Emmy in 2005 for “Desperate Housewives.” Huffman’s been married to fellow actor William H. Macy since 1997. He was not charged in the college admissions scandal. It’s unclear at this time why he wasn’t indicted.

The show is based on Susan Savage, the real-life woman who inherited the Triple-A baseball team The Sacramento River Cats after the death of her husband.

Huffman has not only landed the starring role of Savage, but also the job of executive producing the show alongside her costar Zack Gottsagen.

Deadline offered the following synopsis of the sitcom:

“After suddenly losing her husband and inheriting his beloved team, [Savage] is forced to navigate her new normal with the help of her dysfunctional family, including her oldest son (Gottsagen), a baseball devotee with Down syndrome, her work family and the Sacramento community at large. This is the story of a woman navigating grief, local politics and the business of sports and learning not just to adjust, but to thrive.”

Felicity Huffman’s Role In College Admissions Scandal

This will be Huffman’s first acting job since she was arrested on charges related to her paying someone $15,000 to correct her daughter’s incorrect answers on the SATs.

Huffman immediately took responsibility for her actions and was sentenced to two weeks in prison and a $30,000 fine.

On top of that, she had to complete 250 hours of community service and serve one year of supervised release, which ended at the end of October.

There had been much speculation that Huffman would be blacklisted from Hollywood because of this scandal.

However, according to Deadline, she had been heavily courted for several TV series and pilots since completing her stint in prison last year.

Huffman previously had great success on ABC with three shows: the comedy “Sports Night,” the dramedy “Desperate Housewives” and the drama anthology “American Crime.”

Lori Loughlin Might Be Celebrating Her Success

The fact that Huffman has landed an acting job will likely come as good news to former “Fuller House” star Lori Loughlin.

Loughlin is currently serving two months in prison for her own role in the college admissions scandal.

Perhaps Huffman and Loughlin will be able to resume their careers. It all depends on whether audiences tune in.

Only time will tell.

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
