When WWE was putting Retribution together, it started to become clear Mercedes Martinez was a member. While she did appear with the stable, she has been removed from the picture.
Also, Charlotte Flair is off TV and still taunting former champion Ronda Rousey. Perhaps, this could be the start of something or Charlotte simply having some fun.
The novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, has caused many issues within the WWE for both the promotion and the superstars.
That includes Mercedes Martinez, who was set to be part of the Retribution group. Therefore, Martinez and Mia Yim were to be the female members for the stable.
Martinez has been using social media as a means to sort of reveal why she was removed from the heel faction.
“Justin a reminder: WE..ARE..STILL..IN..A..PANDEMIC!!!” Martinez wrote on social media. “I have asthma and a immunocompromised son. So PLEASE take Covid-19 SERIOUS.
“Be safe, stay healthy. Wash ur hands regularly. AND…..WEAR YOUR MASKS for the safety of yourself and others like me and my son. THANKS MERCEDES.”
For Martinez, her constant and ongoing battle with asthma is a prime reason for not attending television events inside the ThunderDome. People with asthma are very susceptible to COVID-19 and contracting the virus would put her in high danger.
Martinez remains on contract with the WWE. She put out a message after the WWE posted about the upcoming December 6 NXT TakeOver: War Games event hinting that she is interested.
“Did someone say WAR?!” Martinez wrote. “Might be TIME to let the RICAN PLAY!”
She made a brief stop with All Elite Wrestling in 2019 before joining the WWE in 2020. In 2017, she did compete in the Mae Young Classic and other events for the promotion.
Martinez has been involved in angles with the Robert Stone Brand and also faced Rhea Ripley in September in a steel cage match. Since the steel cage match loss, Martinez has not returned to NXT.
In conclusion, WWE seems to have no current plans for Martinez. But, they will likely send her back to NXT or find another spot on the main roster.
It appears as if the “friendship” between Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey has been completely cut in half.
Flair took to social media to reply to a post regarding the two-year anniversary of a bout between the former champion and Ronda Rousey.
At Survivor Series in 2018, Flair and Rousey met with the ex-UFC champion earning a disqualification win. Flair used a kendo stick and stomped on the neck of Rousey with a chair to end the bout.
On Twitter, Flair called the match “The night Ronda stopped wanting to be a wrestler, IMO.”
In 2019, Rousey stepped away from the WWE ring to begin a family with her husband, Travis Browne. There have been plenty of rumors about a potential return to the ring.
So far, nothing has materialized. WWE could be waiting until they can bring fans back for a massive pop.
Rousey, Flair and Becky Lunch met in the main event of WrestleMania 35 in 2019. Lynch walked away with both the RAW and SmackDown belts that night.
Flair has been out of action and away from the WWE ring since this past summer. Also, she did become engaged to fellow WWE wrestler Andrade.
Flair is a former two-time NXT champion, one-time Divas titleholder, four-time RAW champion and five-time SmackDown champion. She also won the 2020 Royal Rumble match.
For now, there is no return date for Flair. Some have speculated the Royal Rumble in January or maybe not until WrestleMania in late March.
In summary, there is no word if Rousey or Flair are headed for another program.
