Here’s Why James Van Der Beek Moved His Family From LA To Texas

People are fleeing California and moving to other states as taxes and regulations are stifling their abilities to live freely. Actor James Van Der Beek did exactly that when he moved his family of seven to Texas. While many are concerned that people fleeing these deep blue states will bring leftist politics to their new homes, this actor does not want to mess with Texas. 

The “Varsity Blues” star shared the journey of their relocation to Texas on Instagram. As a father of five, Van Der Beek knew that Los Angeles was not conducive to how he wanted to raise his children. He and his wife sought a better location to grow and raise their family. Like many people, they chose Texas. 

The Van Der Beeks Have Had A Year Of Profound Loss 

It has been a year of profound changes for Van Der Beek. His wife suffered two late-pregnancy miscarriages, his mother died, his wife also had a tumor scare, and he was booted from “Dancing With The Stars” when he was expected to be the winner.

Relocating is proving them an opportunity to hit the reset button.

With so many people leaving California for other states, some Instagram followers reminded the actor of the repercussion of bringing California values to Texas.

But, it appears that Van Der Beek is not a Hollywood liberal. 

“Please don’t vote to make Texas the California hell hole you’re fleeing,” one wrote. 

“I don’t vote by color,” he responded to one of those comments. “I believe each issue deserves its own consideration outside of the team politics in Washington that is currently preventing our government from serving us efficiently. Our mainstream news sources, and representatives in Congress act along party lines like a bunch of antagonist sheep. We have to do better than that.”

The actor announced their relocation plans on Instagram along with several pictures, including one of his children kissing a tree goodbye at their California home.

Too Many Restrictions In Los Angeles

While Van Der Beek doesn’t owe anyone an explanation as to why he and his wife moved, he offered that up with a story about not being able to fly a kite in a park.

Texas does not have stifling restrictions and regulations that many Californians demand and accept. 

“At the park in Beverly Hills near the house we just moved away from… you were not allowed to fly a KITE,” the actor shares. “Also not allowed at any park in #BeveryHills: Riding a bicycle, climbing a tree, throwing a ball against a cinder-block wall, learning anything from an instructor, using weights, cones or any type of pad, wearing cleats (even rubber ones), and you couldn’t use the batting cage built next to the baseball field.”

“Not saying I need to fly a parachute with a fan strapped to my back like this guy… but when people ask why we’re moving our kids out of L.A. these are just some of the reasons,” Van Der Beek says in the Instagram post to come “More to come…”

Family Trip To The Grand Canyon

Along their trip to Texas, the Van Der Beeks stopped at the Grand Canyon. If a long move across several states with five kids and two dogs isn’t challenging enough, the family adopted two puppies along the way.

Upon their arrival to their new state, which is 1500 miles from anywhere the actor has ever lived before, the devoted father shared that he is filled with gratitude for having this new life in Texas.

This family appears to be quickly setting down roots in Texas. They have more room to run freely and the “no fun” police are far away in California.

Van Der Beek relishes being a father and this move is likely to give him more time for this prized role.
