Carlos Condit Interested in Nick Diaz Rematch, Following Key Win

Carlos Condit returned to the win column on Saturday night in impressive fashion, and “The Natural Born Killer” has some ideas, in terms of his next fight.

Condit names Nick Diaz and Matt Brown

The former interim welterweight champ took on Court McGee at UFC Fight Island 4, and Condit’s kickboxing ruled the day. While the always tough McGee landed some hard shots of his own, Condit scored a knockdown in round one and went on to win all three frames.

The victory was Condit’s first since 2015, and it snapped a five-fight losing streak for the fan-favorite. While speaking to the media afterward, Condit was asked about who he wants to face next, and the rugged vet said this (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“There are a number of matchups that are intriguing: (Nick) Diaz, Matt Brown – we’ve been slated to fight several times. We’ll see.”

Either of those fights would likely buzz old school fans, but a Diaz rematch seems unlikely. Condit fought Diaz back in 2012, and narrowly got by the Stockton star with the decision win.

Condit won the interim welterweight belt in the memorable fight.

Although Diaz’s manager recently reported the fighter’s preparing for a return to the Octagon in 2021, there’s been talk about him coming back before, and it never happened.

Further, would a Condit rematch be at the top of Diaz’s list? Who will have no shortage of call outs, if and when, he makes his return?

Condit “still has fire in my gut”

In recent years, it wasn’t always clear if Condit would continue to fight. The veteran has incurred a lot of injuries throughout his career and has undergone several surgeries.

But, based off what Condit said following his pivotal win Saturday, it sounds like “The Natural Born Killer” intends to fight for a while yet.

“Competing at this level for a long period of time, you’re going to have wins and losses. I’m still about it.

I still have fire in my gut. This fits right into the craziness of 2020 for me. It’s been a while since I’ve had a win.

I haven’t fought in almost two years. It feels really good. I love this. I love what I do — win or lose. I’m a competitor.

I come here to show up and get my hand raised. It’s been a while since I’ve got my hand raised. It feels amazing.”

It will be interesting to see what comes next for Condit, and whether he can string some wins together.
