Tom Selleck Desperate To Save ‘Blue Bloods’ From Cancellation – ‘We’re Winning Our Night’

The Hollywood star Tom Selleck of Magnum P.I. fame is currently in New York City filming the final eight episodes of his crime drama Blue Bloods, which has been airing on CBS since 2010.

Though CBS has now cancelled the beloved show, Selleck is begging executives to reconsider, as he feels that the show is still just as popular as ever.

Selleck Sounds Off

“I’m not looking at it as ‘winding down,’” Selleck, 79, told Yahoo News. “I prefer to be optimistic.

Blue Bloods into our 14th season is the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast,” he continued. “We’re winning our night. We’re performing on Paramount+. So I’m not looking at it as winding down. I’m looking at it as a show that is still rather wildly successful and CBS is gonna come to their senses.”

During last year’s SAG-AFTRA strike, CBS cut Blue Bloods’ typical 20-episode season down to ten. The network then announced that eight more episodes of the show would be filmed and aired in the fall, but this will be the end of the series.

Fans have since launched a #SaveBlueBloods campaign, with a petition to stop the show from being cancelled garnering over 17,000 signatures at the time of this writing. This has given Selleck hope that a possible fifteenth season of Blue Bloods could be in the cards.

“It isn’t hard to add a full 15th season instead of just [the] eight shows,” said Selleck, adding that he views Blue Bloods as being “similar to Magnum, [P.I.]” in that both shows would be ending “in rather enormous success. We’re still bringing it, as they say, on Blue Bloods and performing so it’s a little frustrating.”

CBS President Responds

Unfortunately for Selleck and Blue Bloods fans everywhere, however, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach confirmed earlier this week that the show is cancelled.

“All shows have to come to an end,” Reisenbach told Deadline. “We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show. We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give [the] show the sendoff it deserves.”

“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show,” she continued. “It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

Blue Bloods‘ History

With its’ first episode airing on September 24, 2010, Blue Bloods tells the story of the fictional Reagan family, an American Irish-Catholic family based in New York City that has a history of work in law enforcement. Selleck plays the family’s patriarch, New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan, a role that he’s been open about enjoying portraying.

After the show’s cancellation as announced, Selleck responded by saying that it was “an honor and a privilege” to work on a show that “not only celebrates the men and women who protect and serve in New York City, but also displayed the importance of family.”

Blue Bloods, which also stars Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan, is one of the few shows left on television that celebrates both police officers and family values. Here’s hoping that CBS executives change their minds, because it’s clear that Selleck and fans alike want to see another season of this iconic show come to fruition!

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
