UFC 251 Early Prelims

Bantamweights Davey Grant and Martin Day are starting us off with a bang. Nice striking exchanges and some big strikes by both fighters are finding a home. Grant using his wrestling to gain an advantage in the early stages. 

Literally out of nowhere, Grant connects and this one is all over. He hit Day so hard with a perfectly placed left on the chin that the ref pretty much stepped in before Day landed on the canvas. 

What a way to kickoff the night! 

Strong win for Karol Rosa over Vanessa Melo, as she sweeps the scorecards with two judges giving her a 10-8 round. She also picked up a portion of Melo’s purse after the fighter missed weight. 

Zhalgas Zhumagulov was hit with a nasty, nasty low blow late in his catchweight bout with Raulian Paiva, but the judges did not rule in his favor. 

In the lone heavyweight contest of the night, Marcin Tybura wore down Maxim Grishin to claim a decision victory.

UFC 251 Prelims

After sitting through some slower-paced action, leave it to Leonardo Santos to get us going here. 

Santos stormed through Roman Bogatov in a lightweight contest, dropping him in the second with a series of shots. However, Santos appeared to punch himself out, as Bogatov survived and even gained control in the round. 

After all that weirdness, Santos earned the decision. 

Makwan Amirkhani with a takedown into a choke and he forces Danny Henry to tap right before he goes out. Amirkhani, ever the professional, helped try to get Henry back to consciousness immediately after releasing the hold.

Fun little back-and-forth battle in the welterweight division between Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Muslim Salikhov, as Salikhov was able to score the decision. 

Well, there is a new contender in the light heavyweight division, as Jiri Prochazka stops Volkan Oezdemir in the second round.

Prochazka never backed down from Oezdemir, taunting him early in the fight. Moments into the start of the second, the former Rizin champion caught him flush with a head-kick. 

The 27-year-old is now 27-3-1 with 24 career wins via knockout, but none bigger than this in his UFC debut.
