UFC on ESPN: Eye Vs. Calvillo Live Blog

Christian Aguilera gets us started off on a quick note, blitzing Anthony Ivy in under a minute. Aguilera caught him with a left that forced Ivy to cover up, going in for the finish and earning the victory.

Not a bad way to kick-start the evening for Aguilera and the fans. Ten of his 14 career wins have come via first round finish.

Well, Tyson Nam made me a liar, stepping in and needing just 32 seconds to flatten Zarrukh Adashev.

On paper, it was a complete mismatch, and Nam made sure that it happened.

The victory was his first inside the Octagon after back-to-back decision losses to Kai Kara-France and Sergio Pettis.

Credit the smaller cage or just the desire to put on a performance, but these fights are ending quickly tonight. Julia Avila absolutely came out guns-blazing, finishing Gina Mazany in just 22 seconds.

The 32-year-old Avila is now won four in a row, including both of her Octagon appearances, and is 8-1 overall.

Merab Dvalishvili and Gustavo Lopez have become our longest fight of the night, surpassing the one-minute mark. Heck, these two have reached the end of the first round and that’s longer than the first three bouts combined went.

After all those finishes, it was refreshing to see an actual bout take place. Dvalishvili and Lopez battled back and forth over three rounds, with Dvalishvili coming out on top.

MAIN CARD BLOG COVERAGE

We get right back to quick bouts to start the main card as Mariya Agapova landed a powerful kick before choking Hannah Cifers would with a vicious rear-naked.

Agapova latched on to the back of Cifers and did not let go until the referee stepped in.

Now 9-1 with six first round finishes, including this most recent one, Agapova definitely is someone to watch in the coming months as she works her way up the flyweight rankings.

Unlike the opener, Jordan Espinosa and Mark De La Rosa enjoyed their time together inside the Octagon, going the full three rounds and 15 minutes. In the end, Espinosa scored the decision victory in this bantamweight contest.

We’ve got a few fights left, but Andre Fili and Charles Jourdain have my vote for “Fight of the Night” as the two featherweight put forth an excellent back-and-forth battle. In the end, it was Fili pulling out the decision.

It might not have been as exciting as either Espinosa vs. De La Rosa or Fili vs. Jourdain, but Charles Rosa and Kevin Aguilar did their best to battle for three rounds. The two lightweights had some nice exchanges, with both men leaving their marks on the other.

Following the final verdict, it was declared a split decision win for Rosa.
