Loretta Lynn Is Heartbroken By Civil Unrest In America – ‘We Need God Right Now’

Civil unrest is bubbling over in the wake of George Floyd’s death while in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota back in May. Now, country music legend Loretta Lynn has taken to social media to reflect on all of this unrest in a clear stand for America, its flag, and God almighty. She reminds us that the lyrics of her song “God Bless America Again” are more poignant now than ever.

Loretta Lynn’s American Flag Post Reminds Us ‘We Need God’ Amid Civil Unrest

Lynn took to Instagram back in June to post a photo of an American flag flying at half-mast in front of a breathtakingly beautiful sunset.

“I’ve had to turn my head from the TV a lot in the last few days,” the 88 year-old icon began in the caption. “It breaks my heart to see anyone mistreated in any way. I was taught that you treat others the way you want to be treated. That simple truth has served me well my whole life.”

“As I’ve watched the pain and the hurt so many are in right now, I’ve just prayed for our country. We need God now, more than ever,” Lynn added. It reminded me of the song I recorded, ‘God Bless America Again.’ It feels like it still fits.”

“God Bless America Again”

Loretta Lynn ended her heartfelt post with the lyrics to her 1972 song “God Bless America Again,” which was released on her 20th studio album and her third gospel album.

“God I sure to wish you bless America again / You know like you did way back when it all began,” the lyrics of the song read. “You blessed her then but we just sorta kinda took it for granted / And never did ask again / So just hold her hand, God, that’s all / And if she should stumble please don’t let her fall / God bless America again.”

Loretta Lynn Discusses The COVID-19 Pandemic

Back in April, Lynn gave an interview to Billboard in which she discussed what life has been like quarantining amidst the COVID-19 pandemic at her home in rural Hurricane Mills, Tennessee, which is around 75 miles from Nashville.

“Yeah, we’ve been quarantined,” she said. “It’s the damnedest thing I ever seen.”

Given Lynn’s advanced age and the various health problems she has suffered through in recent years, she is considered at high risk for complications if she contracts the coronavirus.

Despite this, Lynn doesn’t seem too worried about COVID-19 taking her down.

“I’ll be fine,” she said. “I think they’ll let me out of this anytime, basically whenever the problem is over. Then we’ll talk again.”

James Conrad

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
