Did You Know Gary Sinise Raised $1.3M For American Veterans By Auctioning Off His Jeep, Twice?

Gary Sinise is a Hollywood star who is best known for playing Vietnam War veteran Lt. Dan in the beloved 1994 movie Forrest Gump. When he’s not playing a veteran on the screen, however, Sinise has devoted much of his life to helping veterans in the real world through his eponymous charity, The Gary Sinise Foundation. In one of his more memorable, Gary Sinise auctioned off one very unique and patriotic Jeep to benefit his beloved Veterans.

Gary Sinise Auctions Off Jeep To Help Veterans

Rare reported the actor recently stepped up to help veterans once again by auctioning off an old jeep of his for $1.3 million.

The vehicle in question was a 1981 Jeep CJ7 that had been uniquely customized by Richard Rawling’s Gas Monkey Garage, who gave it a one-of-a-kind patriotic stars and stripes theme.

When Sinise announced that he was auctioning off the jeep, he added that all proceeds from it would go to military veterans and first responders.

Gary Sinise Raises $1.3 Million For Veterans

The jeep initially sold at auction for $200,000, and afterwards, Sunbelt Rentals stepped up to donate another $1 million. Things only got better from there when the buyer sent the jeep across the block for a second time, and it ended up selling again for $100,000. This brought the total proceeds from the jeep up to $1.3 million, all of which was donated to veterans and first responders!

Sinise was so overjoyed by the money raised that he threw in a private dinner with him in Los Angeles as well as a visit to the Gary Sinise Foundation.

“My first car auction, it’s going to be hard to top that,” he said afterwards. “There were a lot of veterans out there in the audience so I got to acknowledge them and say thank you.”

He Loves Helping Veterans

Ever since starring in Forrest Gump, Sinise has made helping veterans a huge priority in his life.

“When our veterans came home from the Vietnam War, they were not treated well and had to disappear into the shadows,” Sinise said. “When we started deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan, I wanted to do my part to make sure the men and women doing their part were appreciated.”

If only there were more stars in Hollywood like Gary Sinise!

James Conrad’s passion for politics is only overshadowed by his longstanding interest in Hollywood. His unique perspective as a gay conservative fuels him to challenge celebrity views and those who think they have a right to tell anyone how to think or vote. James proudly wields his minority point of view to combat identity politics and cut through his typecast. Fun fact: James’ guilty pleasure is the British royal family.
