RAW In A Nutshell: Becky Drops A Mom-Shell

It’s the RAW in a Nutshell after Money In The Bank, and it promises to be a big show. As in, so big, Becky drops a mom-shell.

Sure, maybe that’s a bit punny, but it sounded like a good idea at the time. In any case, we can say there is some big news right out of the gate for this week’s RAW.

Asuka and Otis are your 2020 Money In The Bank briefcase holders, and it’s a very safe bet that one or both briefcases will come into play this week. Maybe even on RAW?

I can’t and won’t give it all away before we get into the thick of the Nutshell. However, I will reiterate, Becky drops a mom-shell on this week’s RAW.

Ready to find out what that all means? Let’s crack open this Nutshell and find out!

Best Match of the night:

Tonight? No matches get this honor.

The best part of the show was the opening segment. Hands down, no question about it.

If RAW needed a feel-good segment, Becky Lynch’s announcement covered it. Of course, the one minor issue is that the baby daddy is supposed to be a despised heel, so that part is going to be funny to see play out.

But, if I look at the entirety of RAW, this segment, for both Becky and Asuka, was the highlight of the night.

Worst match of the night:

Street Profits versus Viking Raiders on the basketball court.

Like…just…why?

Star of the Night

Becky Lynch, and as the IIconics dubbed the baby, “Ginger Jr.”

Spot of the Night:

I’d probably go with the eye of Mysterio meeting the steps. But I really am reaching there.

Jobber of the Night:

Rey for taking the beating from Seth. Or, I could say, Rey and Aleister, for doing the solid acting of selling bumps we saw last night, but were taped several weeks ago.

Upset of the Night:

I suppose you’d go with the returning IIconics over the champs? Maybe?

Holy Sh** Moment of the Night:

Without a doubt, this one goes to Becky Lynch and her big announcement. Like I said at the start, Becky dropped a mom-shell.

As in, The Man is going to be The Mom, come December. Congrats to her and fiancee Seth Rollins (who looked like he had a newborn at home already this week!).

And, with the pregnancy news hot off the presses, that briefcase that Asuka won? It came into play exceedingly quick.

We speculated earlier on Monday as to why Asuka won, figuring she’d eventually cash in on Lynch. We just hadn’t imagined it would have come less than 12 hours later.

Wasn’t even for a title match. The belt was inside!

Botch of the night:

AJ Styles with the popcorn toss at the TV showing the Undertaker “Last Ride” hype segment. Like, come on man…throw a full thing of popcorn decently!

LOL Moment of the night:

The Viking Raiders playing basketball. Not sure what was funnier, when they claimed to be playing awful to let the Profits win, or the editing to make it look like the Raiders were good.

Charley saying that a match between Edge and Randy Orton could be “the greatest wrestling match ever”. Like, for real?

Noteworthy Moment:

Well, there was that bit of news from Becky Lynch at the start….

Then we can’t forget this one…

One can’t help but think WWE is doing the “write off Rey” thing to Mysterio. First he gets “heaved off a roof” as part of MITB, and now tonight Seth Rollins “carves his eye out”.

Looks like we shall get at least one more match between Edge and Orton. This one, not yet confirmed, would be a pure wrestling match for Backlash.

Overall lowlights:

OK, this is less a true lowlight, than me giving you an alternate reality.

As in…sure, Becky had to relinquish the title, given her pregnancy. But did WWE really have to do the “easy” thing and just give Asuka the title?

Hear me out.

Yes, it was the clean and easy thing. Becky can’t go, so use the briefcase to transfer the title. If memory serves, we’ve had similar title changes before (though obviously no cash-ins due to pregnancy).

So, I get that…but what if, since ratings are down and all that…WWE has a tournament for the vacant title?

Could have still had Asuka in it, with the reasoning being, why can’t she be in a tournament, holding her briefcase for future use. I mean, I think Lesnar did something similar last year when he had the briefcase?

Or at least, we all figured he didn’t need the case, so why did it matter.

In any case, while Asuka definitely has earned the title again, seeing a tournament and keeping the briefcase in play would have been totally fine by me.

Also, having to watch the Raiders and Street Profits play basketball? That sucked.

Overall highlights:

Congrats to Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins. That’s some pretty awesome news, and the rest of the show was going to be hard pressed to top it.

After the final bell:

Well, that RAW hit the high note right out of the gate. For what it’s worth, while maybe not a great RAW, it ended up being a lot more eventful than I had expected.

I mean, who expected a briefcase to be out of play already? I certainly didn’t.
