Do Jim Ross & Vince McMahon Still Speak? + Double Or Nothing Buys

Despite working for another promotion, Jim Ross believes he still has a sound relationship with former boss and WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

Do Jim Ross & Vince McMahon Still Speak?

For years, Jim Ross was one of the most trusted people close to WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

That does not mean their relationship was always perfect, but what is it like today?

“I think it’s okay,” Ross said during a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show. “You know, we don’t talk as much obviously as we used to. I remember his birthday, I remember the holidays. He remembers my birthday. Things like that, I’ll get a text or he will get a text.

“I congratulated him on WrestleMania for what they did, that Undertaker/AJ Styles match I thought really, really good. And it was a production masterpiece. So I congratulated him on that. But you know, it’s a competitive world.”

After years of working with the WWE, the 68-year-old Ross is currently a commentator, analyst and senior advisor for All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

Ross joined the WWE back in 1993 after working for several years with Jim Crockett Promotions and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). His first tenure with the WWE ended in 2013.

He later returned in 2017 after stints in New Japan Pro Wrestling and on the independence circuit. That lasted until 2019 when he left for AEW.

Ross was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007 and the NWA Hall of Fame in 2016. He is considered by many to be the top play-by-play voices in pro wrestling, having also ventured into college football and MMA during his career.

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) pulled out some big cards for the recent Double or Nothing event.

And it appears as if it has paid off.

According to a report by Wrestling Observer Live’s Bryan Alvarez, the pay-per-view event is trending well.

“Based on the streaming numbers and the early buy numbers and the countdown numbers it appears very, very likely that even at a $50 price tag in the middle of a pandemic in an empty arena this show did well for AEW,” Alvarez said. “It’s looking like it did about what previous shows have done. That, and on the heels of UFC doing 700,000 buys for a nothing pay-per-view? Those were Jon Jones numbers for a non-Jon Jones pay-per-view.”

A special countdown show for Double or Nothing that aired on TNT generated 344,000 viewers.

The card features former boxing world champion Mike Tyson making an appearance along with Jon Moxley defending the AEW world title against Brodie Lee, Cody Rhodes winning the AEW TNT belt and a special tag match featuring Chris Jericho, Matt Hardy and others.

AEW: Double or Nothing took place from Daily’s Place and TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida. It was originally scheduled for MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas before the coronavirus pandemic forced it to be moved.

The next AEW pay-per-view is Fyter Fest, but no date has been confirmed. Moxley is scheduled to defend his title against Brian Cage at the card with Kenny Omega and Adam Page defending their tag team titles as well.
