Triple H Didn’t Want To Work WrestleMania, WWE Superstar Releases?

Triple H Didn’t Want To Work WrestleMania

WrestleMania 36 will certainly be one we remember. It probably won’t be for the reasons WWE would like. With the ongoing global pandemic shutting much of the world down, even WWE had to give in. Vince McMahon wouldn’t go for a cancelled WrestleMania, however. Once the crowd restrictions emerged, Raymond James Stadium and WrestleMania as we knew it was not an option in 2020. WWE pivoted to the Performance Center and Full Sail University. However, WWE anticipated future shutdowns and ended up pre-recording the entire WrestleMania card a week ago. This was smart, considering shortly after they did, Orange County was ordered to stay home. With all of the chaos, Triple H is glad he is not working this year’s WrestleMania.

The WWE executive recently spoke with ESPN about WrestleMania and the current events of the world.

“Right now, I’m a full-time office guy. It’s funny, ironically I wasn’t scheduled to be in this year’s WrestleMania anyways. Every year as time goes by, it gets more and more hectic for me. Getting in the ring just becomes an added burden.”

“Especially this year, with the way things turned out, and what we wanted to accomplish, I was very thankful I wasn’t scheduled to be in the ring this year, because it would have been almost virtually impossible to do everything else that’s happening.”

The takeaway here? It seems Hunter may be glad he’s not juggling in ring match prep on top of the unexpected logistics. It did not seem that he was happy to not be wrestling due to the pandemic. If anything, with his apparent level of involvement now, whether he wrestles or not he’s still around everyone.

Here’s hoping his hard work delivers us a strong pre-recorded show this weekend.

WWE Superstar Releases?

As mentioned before, the world is a bit of a crazy place right now. Many people are being laid off or having hours slashed because any non-essential businesses are closed. Life for many is now on pause. That also includes WWE Superstars, since live events have been called off for a while. But do WWE Superstars have to worry about lay-offs? It turns out, some are worried about their jobs.

We’ve already reported that, due to the reduced work, Superstars aren’t bringing in what they are used to. It’s been said that those who are working this weekend should expect their downside guarantees, but likely no typical WrestleMania bonuses. Companies everywhere are running as lean as they can so they can weather this pandemic and still be around to open back up for business. But would Vince McMahon actually release Superstars to cut costs now? Some are worried he would.

It seems that most expressing concerns are those on the fringe. If they are sparingly used on weekly TV, if at all, those Superstars are worried that they may not have spots to come back to. Adding to their concern is the realization that AEW is also dealing with the same issues, so it would seem unlikely that AEW would be looking to add lower-tier talents in the midst of a shutdown.

With ratings cratering and live shows postponed for a while, it will be very interesting to see what moves WWE makes in the coming weeks, if any, to keep finances in order.

John Deegan

Introduced to professional wrestling in the 1980's thanks to Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event, John's passion for the medium was reborn thanks to ECW in the 90's. A former in-ring "talent" with a career 0-2 record, he finds it more rewarding, and far less painful, to write about wrestling now.
